“Ah. The unbonded little omega from the ceremony. No Syn today I see.” He grins as he looks around like he’s looking for the gorgeous alpha, but it’s not a friendly grin. It’s full of teeth and spite.

I clench my jaw and breathe out through my nose. Calm. I need to stay calm. Not scratch his eyes out. His dark eyes shine with a depravity to them. I hadn’t noticed the night of the ceremony, but I see it now. Something just isn’t right about this alpha. He seems a little unhinged to me. Off.

“Ah, no, afraid not. I’ll be sure to let her know I ran into you, though, Victor. It was nice to see you again, but I’m afraid I’m on a date with a friend I haven’t seen in a while, and we were just getting ready to leave.” I smile at him as kindly as I can, but I’m pretty sure it’s noticeable that I don’t like him. And I don’t think he gives a damn.

“So soon? I just got here. You ran off so quickly those months ago, I didn’t get to learn more about you. I was so looking forward to getting to know you when I caught sight of you. Seeing as you weren’t being courted by anyone, I’ve decided that I’d love to court you, Little Fawn.” His eyes track down my body, and I fight the shiver that wants to overtake me.

Gross. Just ick. So much fucking ick. Little Fawn is most definitely not a coincidence. Something about him calling me ‘little’ anything makes me feel panicky and disgusted. This man is a predator, and he views me as prey.

Well, I am not prey, and I’ll be damned if I let this alpha make me feel weak or scared.

“Oh. How... kind. Unfortunately, someone else is already courting me currently. All my free time is spent with them, and I’m quite enraptured by them. So, I’ll have to decline.”

Is it true that I’m being courted? Not... necessarily. Or at least, not that I know for sure. However, if there was ever a time for a white lie, this would be it. This time, I know my smile is tight. There’s just something about Victor that tells me I should be very careful. Looking in his eyes feels like staring into a deep, dark void. There’s nothing there but darkness. I get the feeling no omega is safe when he’s nearby. Outwardly, he shows no reaction to my declaration, except for a nearly imperceptible twitch of his eye.

“Is that so? And who, may I ask, is courting you so suddenly?”

Well, shit. Saying River won’t get me far because he’s another omega. This alpha will laugh right in my face, but I can’t say one of his alphas because I don’t want to put them in any position to lie on my behalf, not to mention the repercussions that could follow. Telling him it’s none of his business won’t work either, because clearly, he does not take no for an answer, or anything that resembles no. Before I can stumble out with an answer, a large hand clamps down on my shoulder.

Initially, I stiffen, but the warmth seeping out, the sexy scent of teakwood, and the colorful tattoos I peek from the corner of my eye makes me relax instantaneously. Maybe Fate is working behind the scenes after all.

“Ripley. Everything okay?” His voice is deep and smooth, like expensive whiskey.

My belly flutters and warms. I practically melt in my seat just from three words. Nico is a tattooed God that at first glance, you’d find scary. He’s big, even for an alpha, with tattoos that cover nearly every inch of his body from what I’ve seen, and I’ve yet to see him smile. Not truly. I think he’s secretly a gooey cinnamon roll. The big, scary ones usually are. Menacing on the outside, but big ol’ teddy bears on the inside. I sigh, and it sounds dreamy, even to my own ears. I don’t care though because I want to know for myself if he’s the big softy I imagine him to be.

Huntleigh clears her throat, and a little giggle slips from between her lips. I blink and see her biting her lip and staring at the behemoth behind me. I hadn’t even noticed Sage, Hunt’s alpha, come in, too. He’s sitting beside her with his arm thrown behind her shoulders, smirking. It’s now I remember Nico asked me a question.

“Oh. Um, yes. I’m fine. Victor was just leaving. He was asking to court me, but I’ve told him I’m already seeing someone.” I smile tightly at Victor before glancing back at Nico.

So beautiful. You know how little kids lick things they say are theirs to keep others away from their stuff? Yeah. I want to lick Nico. River too. Fuck it, I wanna lick them all.

Nico smirks down at me as I flush, and my perfume leaks out. I suck in a breath, like that’ll stop it from getting worse. Unfortunately, it doesn’t, in case you were wondering.

Huntleigh chokes and gives a strangled laugh before saying, “Fuck, babe. Tone it down. You’re gonna get me started and then poor Sage is going to have to drag me away from you.” She grins saucily, and I waggle my brows at her.

“I was just asking the omega if I might know who is suddenly courting her.”

I gasp when Nico responds with, “Pack Kingston is.”

I turn around fully and look into his eyes. Fire. There’s a fire in there when he looks at me. Like he would burn the world down if I asked. My chest warms at the thought.

“Is that so? And what about your other omega? River, is it?”

Without taking his eyes off me, he walks around and sits next to me in the booth. He smirks before responding again.

“Oh, he’s courting her, too.”

I’m almost positive that Victor wasn’t expecting that response as he’s momentarily stunned silent. I bite my lip to stifle the giggle that wants to come out. Playful Nico. I like it.

“You’re being courted by an omega and that female alpha?” Victor asks me, eyes narrowing on me as he glares in what seems like disgust.

I scowl, feeling defensive suddenly over mine and River’s attraction for one another and not liking the way he talks about the beautiful alpha that I’m absolutely crushing on. I don’t appreciate his tone of voice, and by the growl Nico lets out, neither does he.

“Watch your tone,” Nico tells Victor quietly, an almost deadly undertone to his words.

I instinctively reach out and place a hand on Nico’s chest without looking at him, wanting to calm the anger in him and to stand up for River and Syn myself. I’ll be damned if he thinks he can talk about them with such contempt in front of me and make it seem like our relationship is something dirty.

“Oh, they are most definitely courting me,” I tell him, raising my chin defiantly. “And I must say, they are courting me very well.”
