“We’re going to figure it out. Between all of us, we will keep them safe.”

He stares ahead, unseeing. I’m not even sure he heard me.

“Knight? Why don’t we go try to get some sleep? We can go cuddle up to River with Nico.”

I put my hand on his shoulder and give him the smallest shake to make sure he hears me.

“Yeah. Okay.” He sighs.

I take his hand in mine and lead him upstairs. At the entrance to the nest, I see Nico curled around River in the middle of the room, sleeping. River is wide awake, though. He glances at us as we walk in and watches us like a hawk. Knight strips down to his boxer briefs and then crawls in beside River on his other side, pulling him into his arms as River whimpers. I follow Knight’s lead and strip down, plastering myself to his back, and grab ahold of River’s hand.

“I miss my omega,” River mumbles against Knight’s chest, and I can hear the pout despite not being able to see his face.

“Me too, baby. But she’ll be back in just a few days,” Knight tells him softly.

“I know.” He sighs. “Still, it’s like when we first bonded, and I had to adjust to your business trips or Nico’s conventions he used to always go to. Or the long nights when Syn didn’t always make it home after a full day of work. It sucks, and I regret telling Syn to take her.”

“We ditched out on Syn. And we all know it’s because we were idiots and didn’t think about the fact that, obviously, Ripley would go with us. We’d be there with them if we hadn’t been such dumbasses, and Syn wasn’t currently punishing us for it,” I chime in.

“Not me, because I had to finish my commission. Which I finished today to keep my mind busy, by the way.”

“Next time, don’t wait until the last minute and hole away in the nest with our omega, then.” I chuckle.

“She needed me.”

“Babe, no, she didn’t. I don’t blame you for squirreling away with her. You both marked each other, so of course, you were going to want to be alone with her. But you also could have gotten your work done in between. If you had, you’d be with them both now at Syn’s parents,” Knight points out.

“Ugh. Why do you have to be reasonable? Just tell me I’m right. Gods,” River groans, making us both chuckle.

“No can do, baby. I’m your alpha, which means I’m going to love and care for you always, but I’m also going to point out when you’re wrong and when you’re being a little shit.”

“Fine! Could have at least indulged me while I felt so down. Knothead.”

“Come on, let’s get some shut-eye, and when we get up, we’ll find something to do to keep your mind off of Ripley being gone. How’s that sound?” I ask him.

It’d be a good idea for all of us, honestly. Not only to get our minds off of her not being here, but maybe to get our minds off of the fact that she’s gotten herself a stalker. We could also all really use some fun.

“Can we go play laser tag?” He asks, his tone sounding hopeful and not so sad now.

“Whatever you want,” I say.

“Good. I’m kicking all of your asses.”

“We’ll see about that,” Nico mumbles before falling back asleep.

Everything is going to be fine. Ripley is going to be fine. We’re going to make sure of it. That omega went and got herself one very overprotective pack that would do anything for her if only she asked. Hell, she won’t even have to ask half of the time. We all enjoy spoiling River, and now we’ve got someone else to spoil along with him. Not to mention River spoiling her.

Yeah, everything is going to be okay. Right?

Our flight isn’t a long one, maybe three hours, but the closer we get to the plane landing, the more anxious I get. Ripley must be able to tell, because I feel her hand gently clasp mine as I stare out the window of the plane. I glance at her, and she smiles softly at me.

“Nervous?” she asks.

I sigh. “It’s not that I’m nervous, per se. I just know my sister. I don’t want her to upset you or say something offensive. She’s not exactly the nicest omega.” I grimace.
