“Luna, you have to come get me,” Devin screamed through his end.

I could hear loud music in the background, and by the sound of his voice, he was drunk.

“Where are you?”

“Mondo, and I’m not feeling well.” His speech was slurred.

“Give me fifteen minutes.”

I was angry with him for being drunk, and I was relieved Mom had gone home and didn’t need to see or hear this. The last thing I would have wanted was for Devin to come home three sheets to the wind in front of her.

I drove up to the front entrance of Mondo. I’d been here once before with Devin. Admission to the club was hard to come by unless you were a celebrity or influencer. It was the place to be in Milan, and I knew it was crawling with available women and lots of drugs.

The bouncer at the entrance towered over me. He scowled and pointed to the line.

“I’m just here to pick up Devin Flynn,” I told him.

“Sure you are, and so are a hundred women inside.”

Ugh. This guy was going to make it difficult. “I’m his girlfriend.”

“I’ve heard that before.”

“Listen, asshole, he just called me to come get him.”

“Listen, bitch, I don’t give a shit,” the man said and waved me away.

Bastard. I paced the sidewalk as the people in line stared at me. I called Devin a few times, but he didn’t answer. I walked back to the bouncer and tried to hide my anger.

“Do you know who I am?” I hated pulling this card, but how else was I going to get Devin? I was about to leave if he didn’t get his butt outside.

He leered at me. “Well, you are too short to be a model and too ugly to be an actress, so you are nobody?” The bouncer seemed pleased with himself.

“Are you kidding me, man?” said a guy in line said with a grin. He was about my age and definitely looked like a racing fanboy. “That’s Luna Perez, and you’re probably going to lose your job.”

That made the smile slip from the bouncer’s face.

“That’s right, asshole. Either you let me inside, or I’ll have to speak to whoever owns this club. I’ll forgive theuglycomment as long as you let me in this instant.”

The man stared down at me, but I saw him cracking. He stepped to one side and motioned for me to go in. I grabbed the man who’d told the bouncer who I was.

“This gentleman will be joining me, along with all his friends,” I said, and twenty people followed me inside, cheering and whistling in excitement. The guy and his friends thanked me, and then I went in search of Devin.

Mondo was enormous, and I had little chance of finding Devin on my own. I went up to one of the many bartenders and asked him to help me in my plight. He knew exactly who I was talking about and was kind enough to track Devin down.

“He’s in one of the offices,” the bartender said, escorting me to the back of the club.

I found Devin alone in a windowless room. He was lying on a leather sofa, clutching his stomach, his eyes closed.

“What happened to you?” I asked, breaking the silence.

Devin jumped and nearly retched. It took him a moment to ease himself up. “What took you so long?”

“There was an issue with my credentials at the door,” I snarked.

“I’m so sick,” he said, groaning.

“When are you ever going to learn that you have limits?”
