“Oh, no. I’ve grown quite fond of Thomas Rhett, especially that one song.” She winked at me.

“Well.” Elliot stretched. “I will only sing at your wedding if you marry this guy.” He nodded toward me.

I shivered. That was definitely a possibility.

Ophelia and I piled into Madeline’s car. The moment I was behind the wheel, our hands found each other, and they stayed together until we had to open the doors again, Niko barking and whining as we approached the house. I had brought my suitcase and bag over before we headed to the wedding, and Hannah was safe with Holly at Milo’s apartment. I had the weekend with Ophelia before she went home to New York, and I planned to spend every second showing her how much I loved her.

I unlocked the door, allowing Ophelia to step in first.

“Niko, bud,” she shouted. “Let’s get you outside.”

He jumped and whined with excitement as she led him through the living room into the kitchen and out into the backyard. Once the door was closed, I made my way to her, placing my hands on her waist and pulling her toward me. The chiffon fabric of her dress slipped through my fingers as my hands trailed up her back. Then I was kissing her, breathing her in until my head swam, and she wrapped her arms around my neck.

Giving me a sweet hum as she pulled away, she licked her lips, her eyes still closed, tempting me.

“When do you leave?”

She heaved a sigh as her palms trailed down my chest, removing my suit jacket. “Monday. Too soon.”

“Well.” I lifted her, her small giggle filling the dark kitchen. “Then we don’t have any time to waste.” I kissed her neck, teasing her skin with my tongue, trailing down to her collarbone.

She took a deep breath and arched her back. “We should let Niko in.” She turned to the back door. “He barks a lot.”

“Damnit,” I grumbled into her neck. “I really hate that you're right because if it were up to me. . .”

“I know.” She kissed me lightly. “Trust me, I know. It may seem like a short time, but it’s not. We have all night long, Clay, and all day tomorrow.” Her voice was full of lust. She wanted me as much as I wanted her.

I set her back down, kissed her forehead, and let her trail her fingers over my chest and arms as she left the kitchen. I let Niko back in, gave him a scoop of food per Madeline’s instructions, and then watched as he made his way down the hall and into Madeline’s room, skipping the guest bedroom all together. He jumped on her bed and groaned, his blue eyes looking up at me.

I walked into the room and scratched behind his ears. “We’ll go on a walk tomorrow, bud. I promise. And before you know it, your mom will be home, and I’ll be out of your hair.”

I looked out to the hallway, the light from the guest bedroom shining out, a small shadow moving around the room. I smirked.

“Can you do me a solid and stay in here tonight?”

Niko heaved a sigh in response.

“Thanks, bud.”

Ophelia was still in her dress, removing her golden earrings with her heels kicked off at the end of the bed. Her breathing was soft, her chest rising and falling with grace. I leaned against the doorway, slipping my hands in my pants pockets and just. . . watched. In awe. Her beauty exceeded any of the women I had met in Seattle. Her personality and her charm, the way she could take charge of any situation and how she was independent, her passion and her fire, the reasons why I loved this woman never stopped. The list would always be growing until the day I died, even then.

“Are you going to keep watching me, or are you going to come and kiss me?” she asked, her Southern drawl coming out more than I had heard it this summer. She dropped her hands to her hips, tilting her body as her smile grew, drawing me into her.

“If I kiss you,” I whispered, “I’m not going to stop.”

“I never want you to.”

With that, I took her all in. My hands found her neck, her curls slipping through my fingers as our tongues danced together. She tasted sweet, the way I remember, with more spark. The way she hummed into me, moaning as I moved my lips back to her neck, my fingers finding the small of her back, tracing the edge of the dress until they found her skin.

She removed my vest, and her fingers fumbled with my tie, trying frantically to loosen it. I reached up and grabbed her wrists, pulling them down gently.

“You said it yourself, Phe. We have all night—and all day tomorrow.”

“I know, I know. I just would rather you not be fully clothed during that time.”

I laughed and pulled my tie, letting it fall to the ground as she unbuttoned my shirt, her fingers pulling the t-shirt out of my slacks.

“How many layers are you wearing?” she shouted, taking a step back to lift my shirt over my head. Her fingers instantly found my skin, the charge of electricity pulsing through.
