“Are we flying today?” she asked against my lips.

“It’s how we celebrate. Of course, we’re flying.”

Hours later, we stood at the edge of the bridge, the crew setting us up to jump. Unlike the first time we had jumped off a bridge together, Ophelia’s face was full of excitement, as if she couldn’t wait to take the leap. This time, we would jump at the same time, on opposite sides of the bridge. Ophelia wanted to spread her arms, and then we could jump together in tandem.

“Are you ready?” I asked her.

“Born ready.” She smiled back, narrowing her eyes. “Areyouready?”

I nodded. “Let’s fly.”

We were led to our separate pedestals, each with a guide giving us instructions, and then they counted down. Ophelia’s eyes met mine as we ran off at the same time. Flying.
