Page 119 of Rescuing Kaye

“Make and model of the car would help. A license plate would be best. If you remember.” Mitzy’s voice pulls me back.

I grimace, because that was the last thing I was thinking about when that fucker pulled up pretending to want to help us.

“Not us.” My teeth grind together as fury burns through me.

“Excuse me?”

“He came to help Scott.” I grip the scratchy hospital sheets and swear bloody murder to Scott and the man who helped him. “It was the dean who came to help Scott. Like they were a team, stalking Kaye, waiting for the right moment.” I turn my attention to Doc Summers and tug on the tube shoved between my ribs. “You gotta let me out of here.”

“You need time to heal.” Her expression says what I want isn’t up for discussion.

“No.”

“You need two weeks, but I know a Guardian’s mind when his woman’s in danger. I’ll let you up in a few days. No sooner.”

“But…”

“It’s non-negotiable. You’ll more likely kill yourself trying to help Kaye if you go now. Then who is she going to kiss when we rescue her?”

“Where’s my team?”

“They…” Mitzy pushes my legs to the side and sits on the foot of my bed. “Are in the waiting room. Give me an hour, and we’ll make this Guardian central. We’ll find your girl. Now…” Mitzy leans close. “Make and model?”

“Black Audi.”

“Any detail on the plates?”

“None.”

“California plate? Or another state?”

“California.”

“It’s a start.” Mitzy looks to Skye. “It’s going to get packed in here. Anyway we can move him to a larger room?”

Doc Summers nods. “We’ll find a larger room.”

“Great.” Mitzy claps her hands. With a smile, she points to the IV. “I’ll take care of everything. We’ll find your girl but listen to Skye. You’re no use to Kaye if you’re dead. Stay in bed like a good little Guardian. Rest and heal.”

She’s right. I’m no use to Kaye like this.

“Two days.”

“I said a few.” She gives me a look that saysnon-negotiable.

I glare at Doc Summers and show her I mean business in the only way I can. I sip from the cup and finish my water. Those antibiotics had better do their thing.

As for healing?

The moment Doc Summers gives me the go ahead, I’ll be up and out of this bed.

Nothing will keep me from finding Kaye.

I should restand follow doctor’s orders, but it’s impossible when all I can think about is rescuing Kaye.
