She grins. “I know. I’m gonna use this as my Christmas card. After you get busted because I filed that paperwork just like I was supposed to.”

“If you had, I’d have been able to find a record of it. I called. They didn’t have it.”

She shrugs her slim shoulders. “We’ll see.”

I snap her picture and groan when I see it on the screen. Why the hell does this woman even look good under arrest?

And she’s still smiling.

“Turn to the side.”

“Does it matter which side? My left side is better.”

Growling, I mutter, “Left side is fine. Just turn, dammit!”

She looks over at McCall and smiles which makes me want to slap the shit out of him. Especially when he smiles back at her.

“Have you arrested anybody yet, Deputy McCall? I know you’re new here.”

He shakes his head. “No. I haven’t. I’ve only been here two weeks.”

Like she’s the fucking welcoming committee she talks to him while I hold her fingers and take her fingerprints. I can feel her warmth and smell that sweet floral scent again. Even the heavy-duty disinfectant that’s used here can’t hide it.

“Are you liking it here?” Her sparkling eyes shoot over to me. “What about working with the Sheriff here? That must be very interesting.”

He flushes like he’s talking to his first girlfriend or something and I’m about seconds from breaking his neck and spanking her.

I’ve never felt the overwhelming urge to just go off on two people who aren’t really doing a damn thing except talking.

But I need them to shut up.

I jerk at her fingers and her cinnamon eyes twitch back to me. Her dark red brow lifts. “Sorry about that,” I mutter.

“Sure.”

Then she goes right back to my deputy.

“Where are you staying? Did you get to do any of the Christmas in July stuff? Oh, too late huh? Well, maybe next year.”

The two of them keep chatting like they’re at a party. And I keep tugging at her fingers and touching her to keep her eyes coming back to me.

I’m like a damn toddler. If she doesn’t look at me, I don’t want her looking at anyone else.

“Cannon!” I finally snap and both of them jump. The deputy’s surprised but there’s a look of unholy glee in Hanover’s cinnamon gaze.

“Maybe you could go out on patrol since I’m stuck here dealing with her.”

He jerks his head and grabs his hat, heading out the door. He doesn’t say a damn thing but I’m not so lucky with Ms. Hanover.

“What’s the matter? You don’t like normal conversation?”

“I’m fine,” I muter. “Just time to check in.”

“Of course. That makes sense.”

She doesn’t believe me and the soft smirk on her face makes me want to spank her. Again.

I swear to god, I’ve never lifted my fingers in any way to any woman. But this one just pushes all my damn buttons.
