“I… I don’t understand?” Her voice is husky. There’s a strange flash of vulnerability in her eyes as she secures the towel around her chest. I ignore it.

“This was a mistake.” I keep my answer brief. I step back, knowing that if I stay any closer to her I won’t be able to stop myself from taking her again.

“Excuse me?” she scoffs. My cock’s already pressing against my zipper, but I won’t allow that to sway me again. This entire encounter feels too intimate for comfort.

“You should go back to your room,” I tell her.

Her lip curls. “Why? Are you afraid?” she taunts.

“I’m not discussing this,” I say, my voice cold and steady. “Goodnight, Scarlett.” I turn to walk away before I do something I regret.

“Maybe you’re just scared of what’s going on here between us,” she calls out, the disappointment in her voice echoing through the corridor.

“There’s nothing going on between us,” I reply without looking at her as I walk. I keep my voice steady and authoritative. “I’m not getting involved with you. There is nothing for you here.”

“Is that so?” she challenges. “You think I want something I can’t have?”

“That’s exactly what I think.” My words are clipped and harsh.

“Well guess what? I already had it. And maybe I wasn’t impressed.”

Jesus, she’s feisty.

I’m not about to lose my cool again. But who said I can’t tease her a little?

I stop and glance back over my shoulder. “Maybe I just wasn’t impressed with what you had to offer,” I smirk.

“You think you can bowl me over with one quick fuck?” she sneers.

“Two,” I say.

“What?”

“I said two,” I repeat. “We fucked twice.”

Her eyes grow turbulent. “Screw you,” she mutters. “You’re right. This was a mistake. All of it was.”

“Da,” I agree, folding my arms over my chest. She’s still naked under that towel, dammit.

“Da,” she says, mimicking my accent mockingly. “Always so convinced of your own prowess.”

“Only when it’s warranted,” I shoot back, irritation simmering beneath the surface.

“Keep telling yourself that, Anton.”

Fuck, she’s intolerable.

And this game is nothing short of childish.

Then why do I like it so much?

She stays silent as she glares at me. The air between us is heavy with tension but not in an unpleasant way – in a passionate way that makes my skin burn for more of her touch. Finally, she speaks up.

“I’m going to bed,” she says firmly, though there’s a slight tremor to her voice that betrays how affected she was by what we shared moments ago.

“Good,” I say. “Finally doing what I told you.”

She scowls at me, huffing out an exasperated breath. I’d do the same, but I’m not letting her see that she’s getting to me.
