“What was that for?” She narrows her eyes at me looking like she might swat me back.

I shrug. “I feel like Tommy would have done it.”

Her face eases, “It does sound like something he would do.” She smiles but it is not directed at me.

“I knew you’d like him.” I nudge her with my hip.

“What do you mean?”

“When I first met him in Hawaii, I knew if you two ever crossed paths, you would be all over him.”

Eve lifts her glass of champagne and grins like the Cheshire Cat. “I plan to be.” She winks as she glides across the dining room toward Isaac. Hand in hand, they disappear.

Theo reaches across the bar to grab my hand. I whip around, melting at his enticing smile.

Hellfire. How much longer does this party go for? I want, no need, alone time with him.

Theo leans close and whispers in my ear, “I have something I want to show you.”

I grab my glass of champagne and follow him, hand in hand, to the back of the restaurant. We pass his office door and I am a little disappointed we didn’t stop there for a repeat of last night. He leads me to a spiral staircase, and we climb to the top where there is a door. He pushes it open, and I realize we are on the roof. There are heaters and string lights surrounding the small outdoor space. The view from up here is beautiful.

Theo offers me a throw blanket to wrap around myself to keep warm and I gladly accept it. He wraps his arms around me, his chest resting against my chest.

“It’s beautiful up here.” I love feeling his cheeks against mine, wrapped in his strong arms.

“I come up here when I need to think.”

“It’s a good spot. I’m sure in the summer it would be hard to drag you away.” I smile and he kisses the side of my head.

“The day we met, after we parted ways, I came up here and thought about you.”

I tilt my head up to look him in the eye. “You did?”

He nods. “I sat up here for hours. It took every bit of self-control not to text or call you to see if you wanted to have dinner with me. I didn’t want to wait the three days to make you Thanksgiving dinner because I didn’t want to wait that long to see you again.”

I turn around to face him. My fingers brush down his jawline and I plant my lips on his. “I thought a lot about you, too, Theo.”

“I love you, Catalina. And I’m happy someone as wonderful as you loves me back.”

“Theo,” I pull away from him. “When did you know?”

“Know that I was in love with you?”

I nod. “When did you know?”

Theo slips his arms around my waist, pulling me close. “One cup of coffee was all it took for me to fall in love with you, Catalina.”

“I’m sorry it took me longer to realize it.” I rest my head against his chest.

We hear people in the restaurant beneath us counting down: 10, 9, 8... The New Year is about to start and I am not going to be facing it alone.

7, 6, 5…

“You and me?” I tap his nose with my finger and smile.

4, 3…

“You and me.”
