“It’s ok. Take a deep breath,” she demonstrates while she grips my knee. “You alright?”
I nod when my breathing returns to normal. “I’m alright.”
“Good.” She smiles. “Now go get your man, girl!”
“Calm down, crazy woman.” Tommy shoots her a warning glance. “You’re going to scare all the passengers.” He looks back at me, ignoring Eve’s middle finger. “What are you two going to do?”
He always knows how to calm me with easy questions but before I can answer Eve can’t help but chime in once more.
“Hopefully each other.” She giggles.
“Tootsie Roll.” His eyes stretch as wide as they dare.
“Tommy Thai.” She crosses her arms across her chest.
“He actually invited me to join him for dinner.” I rub the back of my neck, questioning if I should even show up now.
“Don’t.” Eve wags a finger at me.
“What?”
“Don’t bail. I’ve seen that look before.”
“Alright, I won’t.” I hope.
“Where are you eating dinner?” Tommy asks, ripping open another pack of M&M’s. “What?” He looks back and forth between Eve and me. “Screw diets. I’m happy the way I am.”
“Round and repulsive.” Eve sips her water with a mischievous grin.
“Snuggly and ready to cuddle.” He shoots back, patting his belly. “Lauren likes me just the way I am.”
“Of course she does.” Eve nods but by her mocking tone, Tommy’s eyes shoot up.
I grab his arm and reassure him, “Lauren loves you, belly and all.”
“Anyway,” Tommy looks back at me. “Where are you eating?”
“He texted me the address but didn’t tell me the name of the restaurant. I would assume after what you’ve said, it might be one of his?”
“Let me see the address.”
I hand my phone to Tommy, and he hops on the airplane’s Wi-Fi to google directions. “Kit Kat.”
Tommy never uses that nickname for me. My eyes widen and my breath quickens.
“What, Pa?”
“This is not an address to a restaurant.”
“Then where is he sending her?” Eve demands, reapplying her red lipstick before we have to start landing duties.
“I think it’shisaddress.”
“His address?” I choke on the words.
“I think he’s invited you to his loft, Cate.”
“Praise!” Eve lifts her hands up just as the pilot announces for us to prepare for descent.
