“Well after last night, I thought I would have scared you away for sure.” I grasp my arms tighter.

Theo takes another sip of his coffee and shakes his head. “I’m not that easy to scare.”

Maybe it’s the last bit of beer in my system, or the way he’s looking at me, but my first and only thought is kissing him. Feeling his hands all over me. Tracing my fingers around every single one of those glorious tattoos.

I haven’t seen all of them, but from what I’ve managed to catch sight of, he’s got two black roses, a date in roman numerals, coordinates, and Greek inspired mythology.

“I called room service and ordered breakfast for us.” Theo’s voice slices through my lustful thoughts. “I hope that is alright.”

It’s then I see two plates with eggs, bacon, toast, and fruit. An identical mug of coffee sits on the counter. My stomach growls, overruling my libido.

“I’m starving.” I nod, beyond grateful I didn’t have to wander downstairs like a zombie with sunglasses to hide my bloodshot eyes.

“I figured you would be.” He carries the plates out to the balcony table, and we sit to eat. There are two aspirin on my plate.

I glance across the wooden table-for-two, and he must know why I am looking at him.

“For your headache.”

Why is he so perfect?

“Thank you.” I tuck some wet strands of hair behind my ears.

The sound of waves crashing, and the smell of rain and flowers engulfs us like a much-needed hug. Even this early in the morning, people are scattered all over the sandy beaches, surfing, drinking Bloody Mary’s by the pool, and hopping into hotel vans to go on inland adventures.

I crunch into a piece of bacon, and my eyes flash over to Theo. His green eyes already on me. “This is good.” He smiles. “Wait a second,” I squint at him. “You drank last night too. How are you not hungover?”

“I definitely didn’t drink nearly as much as you and Tess.” He seems amused, as if he is recalling every single ridiculous thing we did and said last night.

I run fingers over my face. “How bad was I?”

“What do you mean?”

“I keep getting these flashes of last night and I cringe more and more with each one.” I take another bite of my bacon strip. “So, tell me. How bad did I humiliate myself?”

Theo scoops a spoonful of eggs into his mouth. “You didn’t do anything.”

“The truth, Théoden. The truth.”

“Catalina.” The way he says my name sends shivers through my entire body. “I promise you didn’t do anything you should be ashamed of. You had fun. Nothing wrong with that.”

“My singing?”

He won’t look me in the eye.

Hellfire.

“That bad?” If I could shrink into myself any further, I would disappear.

“Believe me,” he snorts. “There were worse singers last night.”

“That means I was so bad I could be their queen!” I groan.

“No, Tess reigns supreme for sure. The Grand Empress of Bad Karaoke.”

“I don’t remember her even going up there.” I scratch the side of my neck. “How do I not remember?”

“Well, it’s probably because you were too busy dancing.”
