He went on, his hand grazed my side, my hip- poised to pull me closer, “Truly a shame if I were to be honest. But. . . lineage Serra. How would that look, hmm? I certainly could not marry someone who has a reputation such as yours. Your pleas before did not fall on deaf ears. Yet. . .”

I felt it then, the bulge in his pants as he stepped even closer. Pulling at his hand on my throat, pleading, I had to get away. “Kaston please.”

His face softened slightly with a mocking smile, “I remember those words. What I wouldn’t do to hear them again while buried deep inside you.”

I shook my head, my heart pounding violently in my chest as his hand on my neck tightened its hold. It was definitely going to bruise.

Eyes roved my face as he ground against me. A click of his tongue had me cowering, “I could you know.”

He was larger than I was, his broad shoulders blocked out the sun that filtered in through the window, but I still felt his arousal. It wouldn’t take much for him to overpower me. We were less than a few paces from my bed. Another fear ran through me. A tremble raced down my spine as he whispered in my ear, his warm breath tickling the exposed skin.

“Right here, in your own home and no one would know. Just like before and we wouldn’t have to tell anyone.”

I felt his other hand graze my hip again and move up along my side, pausing under my breast, the skin there prickled under his touch. His hand splayed across it as his thumb rubbed against the fabric of my bodice. The sensation caused me to recoil. A nip at my ear lobe forced an unwelcome shudder to run its course down my spine before another squeeze of his hand on my neck.

This was a game.

He was enjoying this. Watching me struggle and fight him, desire danced on his face and in his eyes.

“Please.” I managed to choke out. “Please don’t do this.”

I did not recognize my own voice, the unshed tears behind my eyes before another one fell. I had tried to move on, tried to be okay with what he had done. But I could not live with this. This would undo me if he followed through with it.

Kaston's eyebrow arched, his gaze fixated on my lips as a tear trickled down my cheek. A low hum in his throat as he watched the tear rolled down off the edge of my jaw. Before I could process what was happening, his lips crushed against mine. I struggled to keep up with the force of his kiss, but he demanded more, his tongue pushing past my lips.

Tears continued to stream down my face as he pressed me against the wall, his hand slipping down to my hip and tugging at the fabric of my skirt. I winced as he lifted it, the rough material chafing against my skin. His palm burned against my bare thigh as he lifted it higher, trapping me in place.

Forcing himself even closer.

I felt his fingers dig into my thigh as his hand tightened on my throat, completely cutting off my air supply this time. The force of his lips on mine hurt. His tongue sweeping and claiming. Reminding me that he owned me. That he had taken it before and would again. Whether I wanted to give it to him or not this time. The flash of his teeth on my neck from the last time burned into my head. His hand slid up my leg, the trail it left behind was hot. The sensation left behind an unwelcome fire.

My vision blurred.

I could not breathe.

I could not fight him.

Lack of sleep had left me weak. All I could do was push against his chest as he forced himself on me.A guttural sob lodged in the back of my throat.

And just as quickly as it happened, he’d stopped. Biting my bottom lip and pulling away from me. His fingers squeezed my neck one last time, forcing me to look up into his face.

Waiting until my eyes met his.

“I’ll see you again Serra and keep that pretty mouth of yours shut. I’d hate to have to put it to use if you decide to speak toanyoneabout this.”

The last of his words settled into my chest as he let go of me. The sound of his boots on the wood floor thundered in my ears. I didn’t see him leave, didn’t see him yank the door open. The force of his grip hard enough that the knob broke, not as I crumpled and sunk to the floor with my arms wrapped around myself, trying desperately to hold myself together. The numbness he’d left me with as my body shook with sobs. The sound of him exiting through the gate rang through the interior of my cottage.

He’d be back.

If I knew anything about him, anything at all, I knew he was determined and relentless,

* * *

Kaston did not come back that day.

Nor did he come back the next day, or the day after that. In fact, I didn’t see him at all. But it did not stop the bruise around my neck from appearing. It was angry, dark purple and sore. I touched the tender surface and hissed, carefully applying a cream of aloe and peppermint to the darkened skin. Anything to help relieve the pain. But the fear he left me with, the fear that he would come back and finish what he had started, hung over me like a heavy weight.

The knob on the door had been completely broken of with the spindle snapped in two. It would require repair- a skill far outside my capabilities. For the time being, the deadbolt would have to do. And while it would keep out smaller creatures, I feared it would not keep him out should he return. He would find a way, no matter what. The fire in the hearth crackled and flickered, continuing its angry dance along the logs as I sat there. My mind wandering with the possibilities. I’d settled in after a day of work outside in the garden, my body no longer able to take anymore.
