Baja clears his throat. “Don’t mean to throw water on the flames, brother, but we need to put rubber against the asphalt.”

I growl, and Sukie giggles. I taste my woman’s lips again and allow her to enter the car before strolling to my bike and throwing my leg over the seat. Baja fires his bike up, and I do the same. As Sukie pulls away from the house, we fall behind her and head toward town. Sukie pulls into a gas station and gets out of her car.

“I need to fill up and grab my usual soda and snacks!” she shouts over the sound of our engines. I park my ride, as does Baja.

I stroll over to my woman. “Get back in the car, babe. I’ll take care of the gas and grab what you need.”

“Luca,” she says in protest.

I kiss her. “Back in the car. Lock it.” I leave no room for argument.

Sukie sighs. “Fine.” She folds her arms beneath her breasts, and my eyes drop to her cleavage, then rise back to her face. Sukie raises her brow.

“Don’t think you can get away with being bossy all the time.” She opens her car door, getting inside.

“I need to drain the lizard, brother.” Baja dismounts his bike and walks inside. With Sukie safe in the car, I head into the store. Realizing I forgot to ask what she wanted, I grab various snacks and sodas. I place everything on the counter and pay for some gas. As I wait for the cashier to ring up my items, Baja walks out the door. That’s when I notice the patrol car parked behind our bikes.

I snatch the plastic bag off the counter and charge outside. Sukie stands outside her car, her face etched with fear and confusion. The cop is too close to my woman, looming over her menacingly.

“Your mother’s crimes haven’t taught you anything, Mrs. Pierce? Now you’re involved with a biker?” His voice drips with aggression.

My blood boils, and I quicken my pace. Without a second thought, I rushed forward to intervene.

“Back off, motherfucker,” I growl, causing the cop to take a step back. I take another step, and something crunches beneath my feet. Glancing down, I see shattered pieces of Sukie’s taillight. I clench my fists.

Officer Campbell’s hand hovers over his weapon. “Take another step, and I’ll arrest you.”

“It’s okay, Luca.” Sukie murmurs.

I eye the officer. “The hell it is.”

Campbell focuses on me, his eyes narrowing as he assesses me from head to toe. “This is none of your business.”

“Sukie is my business.” I fight to maintain my composure. “And you are steppin’ over the line.”

The cop’s face flushes with anger at being challenged. He steps closer. “You don’t know who you’re dealing with,” he sneers.

“I can’t say the same for you.”

“Is that a threat?” he says through clenched teeth.

“I don’t make threats.” Adrenaline courses through my veins as tense silence hangs in the air. The motherfucker’s days are numbered; he just doesn’t know it.

The officer’s jaw ticks. “Get that taillight fixed, Mrs. Pierce.” He never takes his eyes off me and steps away.

Once the cop returns to his patrol car and pulls out, I turn to my woman and gently pull her against me, offering her comfort and support.

“You, okay?”

“Yeah.” She keeps her face buried against my chest for a minute, then looks up at me. “It’s not the first time he’s harassed me, and it won’t be the last.”

My body vibrates with anger. “It’s the last time,” I declare.

Sukie sighs. “Officer Campbell was my stepdad’s best friend and partner. He hates me and my mother, though I’m the target of his harassment most of the time.”

“Not anymore. I promise.”

Once Sukie is safe at work, Baja and I hit the road again, arriving at the clubhouse a short time later. We walk into the clubhouse together and head downstairs, finding Salem, Laredo, and Juneau waiting at the table. We take our seats.
