I took my refill, then clinked the ice cubes again. “He’s pretty perfect, in fact.”

“Why do you sound like that’s a problem?” she asked as she started putting the tarot cards away.

“Crystals?”

Rowena nodded. “I’m not getting a good reading, so I’m going to try the crystals.”

“Okay,” I said eagerly because I liked the crystal readings.

“So, why is Rush being perfect a problem?” she asked as she pulled out her supplies.

“Because I’m always wary of things that are too good to be true,” I answered honestly. “I mean, aren’t you?”

“Ever heard of self-sabotage?” she scolded like a disapproving momma.

“That’s not what I’m doing,” I denied. “I just…he’sreallyperfect, Row.”

“Good,” she replied. “You deserve perfect.”

Before I could say anything more, we heard the front door opening, and Mark yelling, “I’m home!”

I grinned, and we waited patiently until Mark appeared in the doorway, holding a bag that included all of our alcoholic needs and wants.

“Have I told you lately how much I love you?” I asked, and the tears of frustration almost fell when he walked over, then placed a tender kiss on the top of my head.

“Hey, Landry,” he murmured against my hair. “How are you holding up, kiddo?”

“Not good, but I got a buzz going, so that’s something,” I answered.

He let out a low chuckle. “Well, that is something, I suppose.”

I watched as he walked over, then planted a very passionate kiss on his wife. Where Rowena had red hair and hazel eyes, Mark had dark brown hair and warm brown eyes. Mark was the type of guy that looked like he should belong to a woman forever. Mark Braden was the type of man thatwantedto take care of his wife, and that quality in a man was sexy as hell.

After he finally tore his lips from Rowena’s, he placed the bag on the table, then said, “I’ll just be cleaning up before dinner.”

“I can’t stay,” I announced, knowing that there was always an open invitation for me.

“Why not?” he asked. “If anyone deserves to sleep in tomorrow, it’s you. So, get drunk, eat, then pass out in the spare bedroom like a good girl.”

“Rush is going to pick her up later,” Rowena informed him.

“And how are things going with Rush Crawford?” Mark asked.

“We’re at the too-good-to-be-true stage in the relationship,” I admitted.

Mark shook his head. “I’m going to go take a shower before I say something that’s going to land me in the doghouse.”

“Wise decision,” Rowena chuckled.

I watched Mark leave the room, then said, “You are one lucky woman, Rowena Braden.”

She sighed. “Don’t I know it.”

Just then, my phone chimed with an incoming text.

Sexy CEO:I’m on my way

I looked up at Rowena. “Rush is on his way.”
