My eyes drop to his lips, and my stomach flutters as I imagine him kissing me until he takes my breath away. Even though he’s been inside me for several days, it’s not enough. I want more of him, every day for the rest of forever.

“Maybe not today,” I say, meeting his eyes again. “But yes, I want to go back to work.”

He considers me for a moment before pressing his lips to my forehead. I close my eyes, breathing in his bourbon and smoke scent, but the honey in the air is still too thick for me to smell anything else.

“All right then,” he says finally. “As long as you know you don’t have to. I’ll take care of you, babydoll.”

“I know.” I slide up to brush my nose against his, losing myself in his rich brown eyes. “But who’s going to give you hell at work if I’m not there?”

He smirks and brings his hand up to cup the side of my face.

“That’s true,” he says with a laugh. “I do enjoy our banter.”

“Plus, what am I supposed to do here by myself all day?” I ask, teasing his lips with mine. I’m itching for a kiss, but playing with him is too fun to cut short.

“I could work less,” he offers. “Just for rushes and things. Then you’d have most of my attention.”

I shake my head. “You’re about to open a second restaurant. You don’t have time to take off work.”

He sighs, finally conceding. “Also true. Fine, I guess there’s no talking you out of it.”

“You know me better than that.” I shake my head. “It takes a lot to change my mind.”

“I’m well aware. You’re strong-willed, that’s for sure.”

“And you obviously like it,” I snark back, sticking my tongue out at him.

He dips down to grab my tongue with his teeth, but it’s back in my mouth before he has a chance. Instead, he presses his lips to mine and rolls us over, pressing me into the mattress.

“I do, babydoll,” he says tenderly, kissing his way around my jaw. “That’s one of the things I love most about you, and I’ll never ask you to change.”

He kisses my lips again, running his tongue delicately over the seam and sending a chill rolling down my back.

“Are you sure about that?” I ask, wrapping my arms around his neck.

“You are perfect for me, Jessa.” The sincerity in his gaze makes my heart stutter. “Everything about you was made for me. I’ve never been so sure about anything.”

I smile at his words, relieved that they mirror what I’m thinking.

An alpha might have been the last thing I thought I needed, but Alessandro was the missing piece that makes everything in my life make sense.

He found me when I didn’t want to be found, healed the broken parts of me I thought couldn’t be mended.

Now, I have the rest of my life to thank him for it.

JESSA

“Can I look yet?” I ask, my legs bouncing up and down with excitement. My eyes have been closed for at least ten minutes as we drive around Tolmeco, and I’m fairly certain Alessandro is taking me to the new Sal’s location.

It’s all he’s talked about for the last week.

“Almost,” he chuckles, taking my hand in his and bringing it to his lips. “Be patient.”

I huff exaggeratedly, but I’m not actually bothered. I’m excited, sure, but happy to wait for whatever it is Alessandro wants to show me. I can tell by how talkative he’s been today that he’s excited.

We slow to a stop, and he lets go of my hand to put the car in park. My adrenaline jacks up as I try to picture what I’ll see when I open my eyes, but I just keep imagining an empty lot with a construction crew.
