“Your worthless employee isn't doing her job, and you're kickingusout?” Caleb spits, one of his eyebrows cocking. “What kind of shit is this?”

Fear prickles across my skin as the blame is once again aimed at me, but it’s clear Alessandro is on my side.Thank the gods.

“Don't pretend like you haven't been harassing her since you sat down,” Alessandro replies, somehow maintaining a perfectly professional tone. “So, unless you want problems, I suggest you leave now.”

Yes. Please. For the love of fuck, leave.

“What are you going to do, old man?” Caleb asks, and Derrick gets to his feet as well. I take a half-step away from him, putting me closer to Alessandro. It’ll only take a brief second if someone swings for Sean to be out of the booth too, and I don’t want to get trampled.

I don’t want to run away and leave Alessandro alone with them, so I stay, stuck in place as the scene before me unfolds, helpless to do anything about it.

My stomach turns.

Would they really fight three against one?Would Alessandro stand a chance?

“That depends on your next move, son, but I’d hate to embarrass you in front of an audience,” Alessandro says with a shrug. He’s still surprisingly calm, while I can tell every one of his words are getting under Caleb’s skin and festering.

Derrick’s hands clench into fists at his sides, and I take another step toward Alessandro, gently reaching for his sleeve without realizing it. I don’t know what to do, but the feel of his shirt fabric between my fingers is a balm to my tense nerves and makes me think a little clearer.

I should probably get back, but I’m waiting for Alessandro’s instructions. Does he want me to move or stay close by? Does he want me to get Damon or call the police?

The last thing I want to see is a knock down, drag out fight in the middle of a restaurant between my old pack and my boss, but I don’t see a way out of it. Everything is in Caleb’s hands. Alessandro will react to whatever he does, but he won’t make a move before that.

The intensity of their alpha energies is swelling, filling the room and making the air feel thick. It constricts around me, making my chest tight, and I can only stare up at the deadly gaze Alessandro has focused on Caleb.

I hardly notice the tables around us falling silent, curious eyes swinging in our direction, but the interaction is quickly gaining attention.

I chance a glance at Caleb in time to see his eyes flick between Alessandro and me, slowly dragging back and forth before landing on my hand on him. Then, a switch flips behind his eyes, and I watch as realization dawns on him.

Oh no.

I snap my hand away, but it’s too late, and too late to prevent the words he snarls out next.

“You stole our omega.”

I flinch like I’ve been slapped and nervously look back at Alessandro as the blood drains from my face. Nothing feels real as my thoughts haze over, and I don’t know whether I want to cry or throw up.

Alessandro says nothing, but his jaw twitches and he slowly pulls his gaze away from Caleb, looking down at me. He’s still wearing the same stern expression, and a furrow slowly forms between his brows.

“Omega?”

That single word pierces through the murmured conversations around us, and the rest of the dining room falls silent, everyone focused intently on the scene unfolding before them. It’s a standoff between alphas, the tension between them so intense, I could cut it with a knife, and they’ve just thrown an omega into the mix.

“I–” I have no idea what I’m supposed to say, but I feel sick.

This isn’t how it was supposed to happen. Alessandro wasn’t supposed to find out about my designation this way.

I was supposed to go home with him after work and spill my truth over a glass of bourbon or after some hot, passionate sex, but in an instant, Caleb took that option away from me.

Not only that, but he said I was theirs.

I can only imagine how confused and hurt Alessandro is, because his expression doesn’t reflect any of his internal thoughts. A second later, everyone is staring at me, the weight of dozens of eyes on me making my skin crawl.

I swallow hard.

“I-I’m sorry,” I say, even though it hardly seems like enough right now. I owe him a full explanation and a sincere apology. I should probably grovel, beg for his forgiveness, but all of that will have to wait.

Alessandro doesn’t even have a chance to respond before Caleb shifts in the corner of my eye, swinging and catching him on the jaw with his fist.
