“Where’s your landlady?” I leaned against the counter as Graham went to the massive coffee machine and turned it on.

“She travels for work two weeks out of the month. I take care of the place when she’s gone.”

“Pretty sweet deal.”

“It is. Are you hungry? I usually do overnight oats on the days I’m not working, but I have other stuff if you’d prefer something different.”

“I’ll never say no to any kind of breakfast. I’m usually so rushed in the mornings that I don’t manage more than coffee and whatever I can grab on my way out the door.”

“I have those days too.” He fiddled with the machine. “Do you like lattes?”

“Is that a trick question? I’m a nurse. If it’s caffeinated, I like it.”

“I keep having to tell my friend Nick to watch his caffeine intake. Do I need to start doing the same for you too?” He went to the fridge and pulled an armload of stuff out of it.

“Need help?” I asked as he poured milk into a silver tumbler.

“Depends. Do you trust me to make your breakfast? Or do you want to add your own stuff?”

“I trust you.”

“Then have a seat. It’ll only take a few minutes to get everything ready.”

I perched on a stool and watched Graham move about the kitchen with all the confidence of someone who knew what they were doing.

Did I have a competency kink? Or maybe I just liked watching a hot guy cook for me. Either way, my dick was rock hard by the time Graham brought two steaming mugs to the island.

“You’re spoiling me.” I took a sip of the latte. “Christ on a bike that’s good.”

He chuckled and put a mason jar in front of me. “Evie’s machine is amazing.”

“What flavor is this?” I took another sip.

“I mixed vanilla and chocolate mint together. Nick introduced me to it and it has me in a chokehold.”

“Nick…is he a friend of yours?” I picked up the mason jar and examined the layers. Had that come out jealous? Fuck, I hoped not.

“He’s my best friend. We work at the club together.”

“Would I have seen him dance?”

“Yup. He goes by Angel. He’s the other blond.”

“Him? He seemed…young.”

“He’s older than he looks. Only a year younger than me.”

“What’s in here?” I wiggled the jar. “I’m seeing berries and nuts, but something tells me I’m missing crucial ingredients.”

He grinned. “That’s my favorite combo. It doesn’t have a name, but it’s oats, Greek yogurt, mixed berries, chopped macadamia nuts, slivered almonds, shredded coconut, vanilla, and a layer of hazelnut spread.”

“Sounds good.” I dug my spoon into the mixture and took a big bite. “Holy fuck, G. This is amazing.”

He smiled shyly. “They’re easy to make ahead of time. Takes less than five minutes to prep, then you just add whatever toppings you want when you take them out of the fridge.”

“I’ll have to get some of your recipes and give them a try.”

We ate our food in relative silence, but it wasn’t strained. It was comfortable, and that was messing with me.
