“I’m still working at the club, but I got hired to work on a crew with a couple of my buddies. And”—I glanced over at Caleb out of habit—“I started a side gig as a personal cook.”

Tabby beamed. “That’s amazing. We’re so proud of you.”

“Thanks.” I flushed at the praise. “Caleb helped me with that one. He knew some people at work who were interested in hiring someone to do their meal prep. I’ve got three clients right now. It’s not much, but it’s a start.”

“It’s a great start,” Marilyn said firmly.

“They’re ten minutes away!” Mom called.

“It’s go time.” Marilyn turned to Tabby. “Tell Jett to get off his phone and get ready.”

“I’m not on my phone.”

I turned toward the door that led to the back part of the café as it swung closed. A gorgeous guy about Caleb’s age was tying an apron around his waist.

“Hey.” He upnodded me. “I’m Jett.”

“Gray.”

“Jett is my nephew,” Tabby said. “Just moved to the city a few months ago. He’s been helping out here while he looks for work.”

“It’s rough out there.” Jett leaned against the wall.

“Tell me about it,” I agreed. “Took me ages to find something. What kind of work are you looking for?”

“Carpentry, but at this point I’ll take anything. Serving, bartending, stocking shelves. Whatever.”

“The club I work at is looking for a bartender.”

He perked up. “Yeah?”

I nodded. “It’s part time, only on the weekends, but it’s steady work.”

“That’s fine. What kind of club is it?”

“It’s a strip club.”

“Girls, or guys?”

“Guys. Is that a problem?”

“Nah, man. That just means the customers are mostly women, right?”

“Right.”

He grinned. “Sounds kinda awesome if you ask me. What’s it called?”

“Crimson Club. It’s open on Friday and Saturday this week. Stop by about an hour before we open and ask for Biggs, he’s our boss.”

“Thanks, man.” He held out his hand. “I appreciate the hookup.” His grip was strong and his hands were rough with calluses.

“No problem. I can’t guarantee anything, but he hasn’t advertised the position yet, so maybe you’ll luck out. Mention my name if he asks how you heard about the opening.”

“Will do.”

“Babe?” A soft hand pressed against my lower back.

“Yeah?” I leaned back as Caleb slung his arm around my waist.
