The microwave beeped.
“Good.”
I sat quietly as he spooned two huge portions into oversized serving bowls. He put one in front of me. “Eat.”
“With my hands?” I smiled sweetly at him.
Rolling his eyes, he yanked open a drawer. “Just for shits and giggles, I should make you.”
“How do you know I won’t just stick my face in it like a dog and eat that way?”
He grinned. “Nowthat’ssomething I want to see.”
“I’d rather starve.” I flashed him another smile.
“Too bad. That would have been amusing.” He handed me a spoon. “Now eat so we can get clean and get to bed. I’m beat.”
“Get clean?”
He scooped up a big bite of his food. “Yeah. You know, do that hygiene thing.”
“Why?”
“Because we’re covered in hospital and you’ve still got glitter residue all over you. I’m not letting you into my bed until you’re clean.”
“Yourbed?”
“Unless you want to sleep on the floor in front of it like a dog, then yes. My bed.”
“I can sleep on the couch.”
“Eat your food.”
I took a bite without thinking, barely tasting it as my stomach growled.
“Slow down. No one’s going to take it from you.”
I shot him a flat look but chewed my next bite more thoroughly. “Anyone ever tell you you’re bossy and annoying?”
“Constantly. Anyone ever tell you you’re just annoying?”
“All the time.”
“You can’t sleep on the couch. You need a good, solid rest after what you went through.”
“Then you sleep on it.”
“Not a chance,” he said as he ate. “For one, this is my house so I sleep in my bed. Two, I just finished three night shifts, and it was the damn full moon last night. I need my bed as much as you do. And three, the couch isn’t full sized, so neither of us would fit on it.”
“You said your roommate left. What about her room?”
“Unless you want to sleep in my gaming chair, then no.” He pointed at my bowl with his spoon. “Keep eating.”
I shoved another bite in my mouth.
“I need to monitor you for a concussion. The easiest way to do that is if you’re next to me.”
“I’m not sleeping with you.”
