We used stage names for privacy, but at least Gray was a nickname and not my full name.

“I got a text from Walden telling me to come outside because he was picking me up.” She fiddled with her bracelets. “He didn’t know I was here.”

Corey gave her a tight smile. “Then what happened?”

“He yelled. Told me to get in the car. I said I wasn’t going to because he was drunk. He grabbed me.” She bit her lip and looked between me and Walden. “I don’t remember much else. Just that he”—she waved to me—“shouted and Walden let me go. The next thing I knew they were fighting.”

“Did he provoke you?” Corey threw a look at Walden.

“Yes! He started it. Said he’d kill us and rushed us. Right, Johnny?”

The other asshole who’d fought me shouted his agreement as their two friends chimed in.

“Did that happen?” Biggs asked the woman.

“I…” She glanced between us again. “I don’t remember. Maybe?”

A car peeled into the lot and skid to a stop next to the one the men had shown up in.

“What’s going on?” Ray, Corey’s husband and the other co-owner of the club, hollered as he scrambled out of his car.

“I got the kit.” Nick knelt next to Kai.

“Thanks.” Kai opened it and pulled out a few packages.

A rush of dizziness hit. My vision went snowy as the world tilted to the left.

“Careful.” Kai grabbed my shoulder. “Nick, get behind him so he doesn’t fall.”

“I’m fine.” I lifted my hand to swipe at the wetness on my forehead and around my eye.

Kai knocked my hand away. “Don’t touch that. I need to clean it.”

“Clean what?”

He tore open what looked like an alcohol wipe. “This is going to sting.”

A slender body pressed against my back. Nick was almost thirty pounds lighter than me. I tried to put some distance between us so I didn’t crush him if I fell back.

“I’m too heavy.”

“No, you’re not.” He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and tugged me against his chest. “I’m stronger than I look.”

Something wet touched my forehead. I winced at the sting of pain. “Ow.”

“Told you.” Kai wiped at my forehead. “This might need stitches.”

“I’m fine.”

He snorted. “Sure you are.”

People were talking around us, but I couldn’t concentrate on anything other than how much pain I was in. My stomach hurt, but at least I could breathe again. Sharp pain radiated through my left wrist and arm, and a dull ache pulsed through my knee with every heartbeat. My head throbbed, and the place Kai kept wiping stung. My whole body felt tender, and I was so tired I just wanted to crawl into a big bed and sleep until next week.

“Hold this for him.” Kai pressed a clean piece of gauze against my forehead. Nick took it and kept it in place. “What else hurts?”

“A lot.” I leaned more heavily on Nick.

“What the fuck?”
