He looked to be about our age. He was hot with his dark hair, chiseled body, and tattoos. He seemed to be focused on the table with the two younger guys sitting at it. One of them looked like he was witnessing a miracle and not a hot guy grinding to music. The other had a shit-eating grin on his face as he glanced between his friend and the dancer.

Tonight had been a mistake. Seeing this other side of Graham, knowing the angry, broken guy who came apart in my bed was only one side of him, was dangerous.

I didn’t hate him. Looking back, I’d never truly hated him. I’d resented him and hated how his father used him as a tool to control me, but that hadn’t been Graham’s fault. Nothing I’d been angry at him about was his fault.

He was still a surly, annoying brat, but the more I learned about him and his past, the more it made sense.

Dammit. I didn’t want to like him. I didn’t want to understand him or start rationalizing his behavior. This thing between us was just fucking. Two guys who happen to be sexually compatible getting off together and then going on their merry way.

Feelings were never supposed to get involved. Graham might not be the asshole I’d thought he was, but that didn’t change anything. The fact that I was starting to care about him signaled it was time for this arrangement to end.

CALEB

Caleb:are you home?

Gray: why?

Caleb: curiosity

Gray: you know what they say about curiosity being a killer

Caleb: good thing I’m not a cat

Caleb: are you home or not?

Gray: yes

Gray: are you okay?

Caleb: not really

Gray: want to come over?

Caleb: yeah

Less than half an hour later I knocked on Graham’s door. What the fuck was I doing here? Of all the people in the world, why had I texted him?

He pulled the door open. “Are you okay?” He stepped aside to let me in. “What happened?”

“I just…” I closed the door and drew in a shaky breath. “I had a really rough shift. I shouldn’t have texted. I’m not in the right headspace for this.”

“Headspace for what?”

“Being around people.”

“Awww, you consider me people?”

“Yeah, not sure when that happened. Congrats on the upgrade.” I tried to keep my voice light and joking, but it came out flat and tired.

“It looks like you’re not in the headspace to be alone, either.”

“No.”

“Do you want to come in for a bit?”
