“Not much. You haven’t been back in a while.”

“Just been busy. I’m here now,” he says as I smile up at him and walk back around the bar. I grab his usual and slide them across the bar to him as he takes his seat along with his brothers.

“Been staying busy?” I ask, trying to make conversation.

“As busy as can be. Things have been a little rocky lately.”

“Meaning?” I inquire.

“Club business, darlin’. You know how that is,” he reminds me. Club business isn’t discussed with anyone outside the club, and I respect that. These guys are where I get my fill though. They tell me stories and keep me on edge. It’s like a piece of my old world, but I’m not involved. It’s a win-win for me.

“I got it. You can’t talk about it,” I tell him. He nods and downs his shot before setting his glass on the bar in front of him for a refill.

“What I can tell you is Marley had her baby.”

“She did? Boy or girl?” I ask excitedly. Marley is one of the old ladies at the clubhouse and has been in a few times before with Trucker, her old man.

“Little boy. You should come see him,” he tells me.

“I might do that.”

“Good. We miss seein’ you around the clubhouse when we have parties.”

“I have a life, Striker.”

“I could give you a better one,” he retorts, doing his best to flirt with me. I’ve thought about it. Letting him in, dating again, but there’s always something that holds me back. I don’t know what it is, and I can’t place it, but a piece of my heart isn’t in it.

“I bet you could.”

“One date, Taylor. That’s all I’m askin’ for.” After five years, it still feels weird hearing people call me Taylor. I miss Kyla. I miss who she was.

“One date?”

“Yeah. No strings attached, darlin’.” I suppose it couldn’t hurt, and I know Striker. He’s a good guy underneath all that leather.

“Okay. I’ll give you one date, but Axel has to come.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” he agrees with a smile.

“That means no bike,” I remind him.

“I can handle that for one night.”

“Then I’ll go out with you. Once,” I tell him holding up one finger. He smirks at me and nods his head.

“Once. Until I get in good with you and make you want another date with me,” he teases. I refill his shot glass and slide it back in front of him as he smiles at me. It’s a genuine smile too. One I haven’t seen in a long time.

“You think you got it like that?”

“Oh, come on, sweetheart. You know I do.”

“You got the looks, that much we all know.”

“So you have been lookin’ at me?” He smiles once more and knows he could melt hearts with those looks. I’m sure he does at the clubhouse with all the girls. I’ve only been there a few times for parties, and he’s always stayed pretty close to me while I was there, so I haven’t really seen him interact with the other girls.

“How could I not?” I tease. A few of his boys need a fresh beer so I make my way down the line, sliding them new ones when the door opens. I don’t look up this time as I’m too busy handing out beers and laughing with the other guys.

I notice a man take a seat at the end of the bar, and that’s when I head down there.
