“I got a call from my lawyer today,” I say out of nowhere, causing Queenie to eye me cautiously.

“Cami made an appointment to meet in his office and sign the papers. He said, according to her lawyers, there will be no protest,” I add.

The thought ofherlawyers makes me laugh… According to Craig, her new boyfriend is sporting the bill.

“Oh, that’s amazing news, E. I know how much this means to you.”

I turn in my seat to face her. “Is it weird to be both relieved and sad?”

“What do you mean?” she says with a concerned look.

“I mean, I'm relieved that Cami didn’t fight me on this. She and I both know she’s not fit to be their mother. She was just in it for the money and status it would give her. But she’s moved on, and I'm sure her new Wall Street boyfriend fills that void. But a part of me aches at the thought of those two precious babies growing up not knowing who their mother is.”

Placing my head in my hands, I sigh in frustration.

“Those two girls are so loved, by not only their amazing father, but me too. Not to mention our entire families. They will never not feel cherished. Sometimes it's not about the parents you were born with, but the people who fill your days with love and compassion. That’s what matters most.”

Grabbing my hand in hers, she squeezes it lightly. “You’re doing the right thing, E. It's what they deserve.”

I look at her as a single tear trickles down my cheek. Quinn’s hand cups my face, and I just stare into her eyes, thinking how different life could have been.

“I’m sorry,” I say, and she raises her brow at me.

“For not telling you I loved you sooner. For taking advantage of the fact that you’d always be there for me. For running away and into someone else's arms when I thought I’d lost you for good. For not being man enough to fight for you when I knew you were all I wanted. As fucked as this may sound, even though my beautiful babies were growing inside of someone else, the only person I ever thought about was you. Always you, my Queenie.”

She leans across the center console and kisses me. My hand threads through her hair and my arm wraps around her waist as I pull her onto my lap.

When we pull apart, I add one more thing that I know she needs to hear, not that she’d ever ask, but I want her to know, nonetheless.

“I never slept with her again… In fact, I haven't slept with anyone since our last time together. I know it’s not important, but I needed you to know… wanted you to know.”

Resting her hand on my racing heart, she kisses me again. “Thank you. I didn’t realize how badly I needed to hear that till just now.”

I don't know how much time passes while we’re wrapped up in each other's arms. But what I do know is that nothing else really matters when she's here with me.

Exactly where she was always meant to be.

Twenty-Six

Afaint giggle from the monitor beside Eli’s bed wakes me up. I rub the sleep from my eyes and see both girls standing in their cribs, babbling back and forth. The cutest little sounds I’ve ever heard.

The sweet smell of maple sugar tells me exactly why the other side of the bed is empty. Eli is most likely cooking the two things he actually knows how to… pancakes and eggs. I grab a robe from his bathroom and wrap it around my sore body before heading upstairs to throw on an old t-shirt.

My body aches in all the right places… my thighs from quivering, my toes from curling, my ass from spankings, my tits from bouncing, and my back fromall the above. Eli and I have been making up for lost time this past week, and it has been nothing short of euphoric bliss.

I pull on some biker shorts with my big tee and head to the girls’ room.

“Good morning, my babies,” I coo, in absolute joy at the sight of their perfect little faces.

They bounce happily on their toes when they see me.

Both of them sit on opposite hips as we make our way downstairs. “I think Daddy is making us pancakes, girls.”

Eli turns around at the sound of my voice. The smile on his face makes my heart skip a beat. He’s shirtless and sexy in all his tattooed, chiseled glory.

“Yes, I am. Gotta spoil my girls since I have the morning off,” he says, making his way toward us with his spatula in hand.

The twins are learning how to give kisses and it’s the sweetest thing ever. Eli kisses me and then turns to Sophie, puckering his lips, trying to get her to give him a kiss on her own. She leans right into him, giving him a little peck. When he moves over to Addy, she just stares at him with a smile on her face.
