The H&H crew were warned about a possible turf war launching so everyone was on high alert. And Avery was determined to prove to her father – and to Sonny – that she had a place with the club, and she was capable of more than just balancing the books.

After finishing her business, Avery exited the stall. She noticed another woman at the sink, applying lipstick, her long black hair in a braid down her back. She had on the usual biker gear of leather pants and jacket, but she wasn’t familiar to Avery at all.

“Man troubles?” the woman asked with a knowing smile.

“The worst. He drives me totally insane.” Avery rolled her eyes.

It was the goddamn truth.

“As long as he fucks you right.”

“I wouldn’t know about that,” Avery replied as she washed her hands. “I don’t think he’ll ever see me as more than an annoyance.”

“I’m Keira,” the woman responded as she handed her paper towels to dry her hands.

Avery smiled. “Avery, nice to meet you.”

“I saw you behind the bar. You work here long?”

Avery didn’t like strangers asking her questions, but she got into her role. “For the past year. I started out working in the back, dishwashing, and inventory. But now the new boss wants me out front serving customers.”

“I can see why,” Keira smiled and gave her a once over. “I own the Golden Ladder. You heard of it?”

“Sure, the strip club in Airdrie, about an hour from here. It’s the biggest in the province.”

“That’s it. If you’re looking for extra cash, give me a call.” Keira handed her a black business card. “I’m always looking for new dancers. We get loads of bikers from all over Alberta and B.C. and they’re very generous with their tips. And I mean very.”

Another idea sparked to life. Avery had worked the pole at a bar in Edmonton to make extra money while she was a student in university.

“Thanks,” Avery said as she placed the card in her back pocket.

“Well, I better get back out there. I’ve got a man to take home.”

“Boyfriend?” Avery asked as Keira walked to the door.

“No fucking way. I need sex, not a headache.”

Avery laughed as Keira waved and left the bathroom. After applying fresh lip-gloss, Avery strutted back out into the bar.

She felt the stares of customers as she sauntered past the crowded tables but ruthlessly ignored them. The only pause in her step came when Sonny passed her as she walked behind the bar. She felt his gaze surveying her body slowly and her nipples reacted again.

Damn this fucking man.

“Better,” Sonny commented as he moved by her, sliding his large hand over her ass.

Much as she wanted to slap his hand away, she put on her best smile and got into her role. She leaned next to his earlobe and gave it a quick nip.

“Like you’d ever be so lucky,” she said quietly, so only he could hear.

Another hand slid to her neck and pulled her body in tight to his. All she felt was hard muscles and intense body heat. Her breasts pushed up against the solid wall of his chest.

“Don’t push me, Avery. My patience is wearing thin.”

“You never lose your cool,” she taunted.

“I don’t. But I think you need to be taught a lesson or two.”

He leaned down and brushed her jaw with his lips. So close to her mouth but not close enough. Just the tiniest touch and she felt the magnetic spark between them ignite. She stared up at his eyes, suddenly mesmerized by the pale blue light.
