The man literally has to duck to leave his home. When I’m not gawking at his height, I’m taking in his appearance.

Why in the world did such a good-looking guy need to search for a bride?

He’s got wavy red hair and a beard to match. Behind his burly brows are a pair of faded green eyes.

When my gaze lowers, my stomach tightens. Big burly chest covered by a flannel. Does he realize I can see some of the copper-colored hairs poking out of the top? Don’t get me started on his arms and his hands.

I bet he’s big and hairy all over. If I weren’t trying to be polite, then I’d happily invade his space to get a closer look.

While I’m inspecting him from afar, I don’t realize immediately that he’s also doing a bit of looking himself. He’s got a mean poker face, making it impossible to tell what he’s thinking.

Is he as surprised as I am? Disappointed, possibly?

His eyes lower, landing on my busy hands before frowning down at me like I’ve entered his land without permission. Clearly, I need to introduce myself. First things first, I need to find my tongue.

Thiscan’t possibly be my future husband. My luck is too shitty for that.

“You didn’t mention an animal.”

I look down at the carrier, receiving a perfectly timed meow from Cheeto. “Oh, he’s part of the package. Hope that won’t be an issue. You’re not allergic, are you?”

Sure, I didn’t consider the fact, but there is no way I’d leave my cat behind.

Instead of answering my question, he turns to take in the appearance of my car. One glance is all it takes for his nose to scrunch. Okay, maybe he doesn’t have a perfect poker face. Perhaps I’m simply more unlucky than I originally thought. I might’ve gotten stuck with an asshole.

“I’m Rue by the way. It feels weird not saying it out loud. This is my cat, Cheeto. I’m assuming you’re Bryson?”

The air feels a bit thicker once he moves his eyes back to mine.

“Come inside, I’ll show you around.”

The guy doesn’t know how to answer questions very well. I’ll continue assuming until otherwise.

Maybe some other guy will pop up, offering up a smile, and be more than willing to answer me. Sure, I doubt he’d be as good-looking as this guy, but I can use some friendliness right about now. Especially since I’ve been filled with fear of my car not making it to my destination the whole time.

Following behind him, the large room we enter is warm. There’s a fire crackling against the wall, paired with a few logs. It is a bit colder up here, even on a summer afternoon.

“You have a beautiful home,” I point out as my eyes continue to wander around.

His response is a mere grunt as he takes me into a small hall of all but two doors.

“Bathroom is there and where you will be sleeping is here.”

When he opens the door and we step inside to find a bedroom, I can feel the heat already crawling up my throat when I realize the room he’s referring to is his bedroom.

Is he expecting us to sleep together starting from day one? I figured there would be a guest room or a more private area for myself. Apparently not. I guess we are just throwing ourselves into this then.

Okay, I can totally do this.

Bryson

I can’t do this.

When I signed up for this program, I figured I’d match up with someone who would be sad and lonely and well…more like me. Someone who can’t find a partner because it’s hard for them to do so.

Rue is the complete opposite. She’s been beaming from the moment I set my eyes on her. Blinding my vision each time my eyes drift in her direction.

Surely, there had to be some kind of mix-up. A woman like her shouldn’t need to use some shady website to get married off. Men should be dropping to their knees, prepared to beg her to marry them. Hell, I should have gone down the mountain and bought a ring before she arrived, just so I would be prepared.
