Quinn curses, his breath hot against my throat as he loses himself. Hearing him moan my name, it’s all I can take before that tightening tension snaps.

My poor neighbors are going to think I’m hurt from the way I cry out. It’s all too much and I can’t keep it inside. There’s a rush of warmth flooding my insides before the guy actually does crush my body down into the couch.

Grunting, I can’t keep the smile off of my lips. He’s still inside and I feel amazing and honestly, I kind of want to do it again.

Now is about the time when I confess my love for him, right? That’s no issue, not while I want to scream those three words out loud so the whole world knows.

When my stomach growls at the worst possible timing, it gives Quinn the energy to lift himself away.

“Tell me you didn’t skip dinner to come find me.”

I purse my lips and shrug. I’m a terrible liar.

“Let’s get cleaned up and then we’ll raid your fridge.” It’s not an offer but an order. So caring for my health as always.

Nodding along to his words, I’m happy to do whatever he wants as long as he’s right there beside me.

One Year Later

“You know, this place is getting kind of hectic,” Melanie mumbles under her breath.

I don’t need to look around the headquarters to know what she’s talking about. It’s quite rowdy in here. A lot of people are having all sorts of conversations, work-related and not.

Bryson’s wife surprised him with their giggling infant. I can hear all thecoosandahhsfrom my desk. All three of them are hovering around Brutus, probably attempting to cheer up the poor guy after his recent divorce.

Then there’s the explosion sounds coming from my computer, another game occupying the screen. I’m not even in my own seat, choosing to let Melanie distract herself while I finish up my work. She’s letting the sounds around us interrupt her winning streak.

Ryder is nowhere to be seen, who knows what he’s up to? After setting his date for retiring, I’ve seen him more out of the headquarters than in. The guy’s grown soft over the last year so I doubt he’d even scold any of us as long as we’re still answering calls.

“We’re part of the problem,” I remind her before setting my pen down. “The last time you lost, you screamed and scared Wesley.”

Her nose scrunches as her eyes remain locked on the screen. “I apologized and he accepted it. He even told me about a pretty good website to do puzzles online.”

Only because puzzles don’t normally make people upset. The memory makes me snort.

“I think it’s about time we head out,” I offer with a chuckle. All of my work is done and after my long shift, I’m ready to call it quits.

Leaving the loud building and going up to our quiet and peaceful home sounds like a dream come true. To make it even better, we’re both off and have the day all to ourselves tomorrow.

Melanie purposely loses her game, happy to tag along. Good to know she still likes me more than the games she finds on my desktop. Once she’s at my side, she wraps an arm around mine before nearly dragging me to my truck.

I guess we’re both a little eager to get back home. If I’m quick, we’ll be home in no time. At that point, there’s nothing that will be able to keep me away from making up for the time we spent apart.
