What do I do when my wife hints at wanting to see more of the mountain without directly asking? Buy a four-wheeler, obviously.

Cassi giggles in my ear as the rush of wind blows against our faces. With her arms wrapped around my body, clinging onto me in support, I can’t feel anything but satisfaction.

I’ve promised her I’d show her all the ins and outs of this mountain one way or another. With me at her side, she has no issue with all the traveling. With the addition of not needing to walk everywhere, I think I’ve won some bonus points with the woman.

When we hit a little bump, I enjoy the way she tightens her arms around me and clings closer to my body. Can’t possibly ask for our time together to be better.

We pass by one of the company’s trucks, someone probably heading off for a job. I feel like I see the other rescuers out on the mountain ever since I chose to take more time away from my work. Thanks to Cassi’s questioning of retiring, I’ve been holding back more and more.

Soon, I’ll have to find a replacement. I haven’t even started looking yet. That’s a whole headache for another day.

“We should make a pit stop,” Cassi calls into my ear. “Let’s visit the waterfall.”

“Again?” A corner of my mouth lifts in amusement. She’s always loved seeing the rush of water. While I use the excuse to dip my feet, my wife loves to swim in the clear water.

Turning off the path, I carefully maneuver through the rush of trees until the crashing waters grow louder than the engine of our four-wheeler. Shutting it off, Cassi doesn’t waste a second jumping off.

Watching the woman run toward the body of water connected to the waterfall, I chuckle when she strips away her shirt. Guess we’re going to be here for a while. Wish I would’ve packed some lunch. The weather’s perfect for it too.

Abandoning our ride, I follow behind, collecting her discarded clothes to put in a pile. Then there’s the splash of water and a string of giggles.

“Tell me you’ll join me,” she begs when her head pops up past the surface. “The water feels amazing, Ryder.”

I’m not much of a swimmer, but when Cassi gives me that pleading look, I can’t say no. When I pull off my shirt and drop it with her clothes and earn myself an excited gasp, I know the swim will be worth it.

Once I’m left in nothing but my underwear, I join her, hissing the whole way. She’s lied to me about the temperature of the water. Thankfully, all it takes is her joining me to warm my body right up. When her arms wrap around my neck and her lips brush mine, I know we’ll be heated up in no time.

The ride back home is going to be wet, no doubt about it. It’s not the first time and it definitely won’t be the last time either.
