Me: Just hanging out with the girls.

Marcus: Sweet.

Marcus: You ladies wanna go out? There’s a party at the hockey house.

“Who’s that? One of your boy toys?”

I look up to find all my friends watching me.

“Hell no. The last one traumatized me for life.”

The guy was obsessed. We went out on a couple of dates, and he genuinely thought that we were dating, even asking me to go visit his family for the holidays. Aftertwodates and some lousy sex. Like, who does that?

I shake my head. “It’s Marcus.”

“Oh, I only saw him in passing on my way to class. How is he?” Grace asks just as another message pops up on my screen.

Marcus: C’mon? This year is going to be INSANE, and this might be my only chance to kick back and enjoy. Pretty please?

“Moaning about classes. He wants to go to some party. You guys game?”

Even before I finish asking the question, I see Rei shake her head. “5 am practice.”

“I think I’ll skip this one. I scheduled a dance class at the community center at nine.” Grace gives me an apologetic smile. “Rain check?”

“Penny?” I ask sweetly. “You’re my last hope. These two became boring when they started dating.”

Penny shakes her head. “Sorry, parties are just not my thing. Too loud and overwhelming. Plus, Henry isn’t really a fan either, if I’m being completely honest.”

“You three are no fun at all,” I pout.

“If you feel like it, you should go.”

“Alone?”

It doesn’t sound fun at all. Last year, we went out to one party or another almost every weekend, but this year, things were changing.

“Didn’t you just say Marcus will be there? You won’t be alone.”

“He’s not you.”

“Aww,” Grace throws her arm over me and pulls me into her side. “Hear that, girls? She misses us.”

I shove her away. “I don’t miss you; I just want to hang out with my friends.Girlsonly.” I give them a pointed look.

“And we will.” Grace pulls back, a smile on her lips. “The school year has barely started.” I reach for the bottle of tequila, pouring myself another shot. “We have time.”

But do we?The question pops into my head, leaving me breathless in its intensity.

“We should make it a monthly thing. Just us girls, no boys allowed.”

Rei nods her head. “I’ll try my best. You know, to have fun sans drinking.”

“We’ll need a DD,” I say absentmindedly, my fingers wrapping around the shot glass.

“Seriously, you should go. Have fun.” Grace wiggles her brows. “Who knows? Maybe you’ll meet someone interesting.”

I roll my eyes at her. My friends have been hinting that I should try dating more seriously. “Just because you two are in a committed relationship doesn’t mean everybody wants the same. A hookup, on the other hand…”
