“Seriously, Bash, for somebody who’s sleep deprived because of sex, you should be in a better mood.”

I glare at her as I make my way to the coffee machine and place more grounds inside, pressing the start button. “Was there something you needed?”

“Can’t we just come and see our friend?”

“Why are you even up so early? I thought you didn’t wake up until noon.”

Seraphina slaps me over the shoulder. “I don’t. That’s why you should be even more grateful that I dragged my ass out of bed for you, you unappreciative bastard.”

“Oh, is that so?”

“Well, I also wanted to see if Penelope survived dinner with mommy dearest. But considering I haven’t seen her yet, I’m starting to get worried.”

The fierce look on Penelope’s face as she defended me last night flashes in my mind, warmth spreading through my chest.

“It’s been a long night, but she’s fine.”

The machine beeps, and I grab the coffee, taking a long pull of the black gold. Not even the burning of my tongue can stop me from enjoying it.

“Was there something else, or is your noisiness the only reason for this visit? Because if that’s it, I’m going back to bed with my girlfriend.”

Seraphina looks pointedly at the mug in my hands. “Weren’t you just drinking coffee?”

I raise my brow. “Who said anything about going back to sleep?”

Seraphina rolls her eyes at my innuendo, but before she can say anything else, Brianna slides a manila folder across the counter.

“Here you go,” Brianna says, slapping the pen over the papers. “Your mother sent these contracts. Look them over, and sign them, please.”

Placing my mug on the counter, I grab the folder and flip through the pages of contracts Mom talked about last night, skimming the words half-hazardly. My mom might not be the best or warmest of mothers, but she was a badass agent, and I knew I could depend on her when it came to my career.

Taking the pen, I scribble my signature on all the assigned places before handing Brianna the papers.

“There. Happy? Can you…”

“Sebastian?”

At the sound of Penelope’s soft voice, I turn toward the doorway almost instantly, and I can feel my heart flip inside my chest at the sight of her.

Her hair is messy, her cheeks pink from sleep. She rubs her face sleepily with one hand, her other resting on Henry’s back. The concert tee from my first tour is hanging loosely around her, falling to mid-thigh and revealing all that gorgeous creamy skin.

Mine.

That one thought reverberates inside my brain as I stare at her, transfixed by her natural beauty.

“How the mighty have fallen,” Seraphina chuckles, but I ignore her and go to Penelope.

“Seraphina?” Penelope asks, a confused frown appearing between her brows.

“We came to check in on you. Make sure the momster didn’t make you run for the hills.”

“Ignore them. They’re here just being busybodies, per usual. How are you feeling?”

Penelope flashes me a smile. “I’m fine. Do you mind if I let Henry out?”

It’s on the tip of my tongue to tell her that I’ll do it, but I remember Seraphina and Brianna. There was no way I was leaving her with those two alone.

“Why don’t you go to the backyard? There is a sliding door just on the other side of the living room that leads outside.”
