“Polly,” Chelsea chastised me.

“What?” I said as we headed toward our table. “I might go to Oklahoma one day.”

“You’re saving up your pennies so you can go to Oklahoma. Really?”

“I mean, I’d rather go to Hawaii, but hey, if Grandpa wants to think I want to go to Oklahoma…”

“You’re so bad, Polly.”

“It’s been a long day,” I said as we took a seat. “Thanks.” I nodded to the guy as he walked away. A young, pretty girl with long red hair and short shorts came over to us.

“Welcome to Colorado’s Finest Beers.” She handed us two menus. “I’ll get y’all some water. You want anything else right now?”

“No, we’ll just look at the menu. Thank you.”

“Okay. And if you want to ride that there bucking bull over there, you just let me know.”

“Bucking bull?” I asked her, questioning. She pointed to the corner. There was indeed a mechanical bull surrounded by some rope.

“If you can stay on for longer than a minute, it don’t cost you anything,” she said.

“And if I can’t stay on for longer than a minute?”

“Then it’d be twenty dollars.” She beamed at me. “You just let me know if you’d like to take a ride on the bucking bull.”

“Okay,” I said as she walked away.

Chelsea giggled. “She doesn’t want to ride that bull, ma’am. But if you have a stud.”

“Really, Chelsea?”

“What?” she said. “It’s true.”

“Whatever.”

“Are you going to ride it, then?”

“I don’t know,” I said. “It looks kind of dangerous.”

“It looks fun.”

“Then you ride it,” I said.

“I am going to ride it, and I’ll stay on for a minute so it’ll be free.”

“Okay. Sure, Chelsea. You can barely ride a bike.”

“Yeah, because I don’t have good equilibrium,” she said. “You know that.”

“But yet you think you can ride a bucking bull.”

“I don’t only think. I know.”

“Yeah, right. I bet you can’t stay on for a minute.”

“I bet you I can stay on for longer than you,” she said, glaring at me.

“You’re on,” I said, holding my hand out.
