“Lighten up, sis. You would’ve been laughing, too, Polly.”

“I mean, it’s kind of funny, but it’s not funny because it happened to me. That was one of the worst experiences of my life.”

“But it makes your experience with the lawyers at that law office today feel better, right?”

“I suppose.” I nodded, and she was right. For a few minutes, I had completely forgotten about my horrible experience at the law offices.

Chapter6

“Hey, girls.” Harriet sounded happy as she opened the front door.

“We didn’t ring the bell yet,” I said as I looked back at Chelsea, who was grinning to herself.

“We have a Ring doorbell,” Harriet said. “What’s so funny, Chelsea?”

“You will not believe what happened to Polly.”

“Really, Chelsea? We haven’t even gotten inside yet, and you want to spread my business?”

“What happened?” Harriet looked curious. “Don’t tell me, you got a job already.”

“She wishes,” Chelsea said, giggling.

“I need a drink.”

“You’ve already had a drink or two,” Chelsea said as we walked into the large foyer of the most amazing house I’d ever been in in my life. Harriet lived with her boyfriend Finn in the most amazing beach house. Technically, it didn’t even feel like a beach house. It felt like a mansion because it was so large, but it was mere steps away from the water.

“Come on, let’s go grab something to drink,” Harriet said as she ushered us toward the kitchen. “Finn’s just marinating the steaks.”

“Okay,” I said. “Good for him.”

“Oh boy. What happened?” Harriet said as she stopped dead and looked at me.

“What?” I said.

“You’re acting like you have a little bit of an attitude and maybe you should get it out now, so that you…”

“So that I what?” I said.

“So that you don’t ruin the entire evening,” Chelsea said, rolling her eyes.

“Oh my god, Polly, get over it.”

“It’s your fault. If I catch something, it’s because of you.”

“Okay, hold up, girls. What is going on?”

Polly looked at me, then Chelsea.

“I’m going to get it out of one of you no matter what I have to do.

“It’s fine,” I said, glaring at Harriet. “Basically, Chelsea bet me that she could stay on a mechanical bull longer than I could.”

“Okay,” Harriet said. “And?”

“And it turned out that she was right,” I said.

“Oh my gosh, I was so right.” Chelsea giggled. “I stayed on like ten times longer than you did.”
