“You don’t have to be that honest and open,” Harriet said, shaking her head.

Chelsea raised a single eyebrow. “Don’t tell me that Finn doesn’t go down on you. You poor girl.”

“Of course he goes down on me, but I’m not going to tell you exactly what he does.”

“Okay. I’m just saying, maybe he can learn some tips from some of the guys I’ve met,” Chelsea said. “Shit, he should get a tongue ring.”

“Finn is not going to get a tongue ring,” Harriet said.

“Hey, he could get a Prince Albert,” I added, and Chelsea held her head up.

“That’s what I’m talking about, Polly.”

We both started laughing, and Harriet just shook her head. “Really, Polly? I thought you were on my side today.”

“Hey, I’m on whoever’s side makes me laugh,” I said.

“Okay, let’s get that salad started, and hopefully Finn has some good news when he gets off the phone with his lawyer friend. I really, really need some good news today.”

Chapter7

“Okay. Polly, I have some good news for you,” Finn said as he walked into the kitchen.

“Yeah?” I asked him eagerly, looking up from the cucumber that I had been slicing.

“Just got off the phone with Travis. He said that the internship class starts on Monday. He said it’s slightly unusual because most of the interns are actually first-year law students with a couple of pre-law students, but I told him that you’re very interested in possibly going to law school and you’re a very diligent worker and that this would be a great opportunity for you to see if you want to make that investment in your career.”

“Oh, wow. Thanks, Finn.”

“You’re welcome,” he said. “You’re going to be my sister, so you know you can always count on me to help, whatever it is.”

“Oh my gosh.” I squeezed his upper arm. “That’s really nice of you.”

“It’s okay.” His eyes wrinkled. “You are Harriet’s sister and one of her best friends, and you’re family.” He smiled. “Now it looks like the salad is nearly done. Shall I go and get those steaks ready to grill?”

“Yes, please,” I said, nodding eagerly.

I looked over at Chelsea, who was cutting a tomato, and Harriet, who was pulling pieces of lettuce apart and putting them in a large bowl.

“Well, I’m kind of excited,” I said as I finished slicing the cucumber and dropped it into the bowl.

“Congratulations,” Chelsea said, a small smile on her face. “I’m really excited for you.”

“Really?” I asked her, surprised, as it looked like she was being serious, and Chelsea was very rarely serious.

“I am. I know this whole law school thing seemed to come out of left field, but I think if that’s what you want to do, you should go for it, and I think you’re not really going to know until you work in a law firm. And hey, it doesn’t matter how you got the internship; it just matters that you do your best when you’re there.”

“Aw, Chelsea.”

“Hey, no worries, and who knows? Maybe you’ll meet a really cute lawyer and then you’ll bang him in his office and—”

“Oh my gosh, Chelsea.”

“What?” She held her hands up.

“I’m just saying, how much fun would that be this summer?”

“I’m not going to bang any attorneys that I’m working for. That is so unprofessional, and I am not an unprofessional person.”
