“Yes, Sister Harriet.” Chelsea rolled her eyes. “What would you rather us talk about? The latest bill passed by Congress?”
“Boooring.” I giggled slightly. “Though I do think we need to start talking about things other than men. Maybe we can start a book club.”
“That sounds fun.” Harriet nodded. “Something intellectual.”
“I think that sounds…” I paused as my phone started ringing. “Oh, shit, it’s Max.”
“Answer it,” Chelsea said, leaning forward. “And put it on speakerphone.”
“I’m not putting it on speakerphone,” I said as I jumped off of the couch and headed out of the room. “I’m going outside.” I made my way to the back of the house and out of the French doors and then answered the phone. “This is Polly.”
“Polly.” Max’s voice sounded smooth as he spoke, and I slipped my shoes off and headed to the side of the pool.
“Yes, this is Polly. Who is this?”
“You know who this is,” he growled. “Where are you?”
“I’m at my sister’s house, sitting outside by the pool,” I said softly. “What do you want?”
“I wanted to tell you that you left me with blue balls the size of Mars.”
“Those are some big balls.” I laughed.
“Yes, they are.” He snorted. “You still coming tomorrow?”
“I think so.”
“What do you mean you think so?”
“I don’t know that it’s smart for me to go on a business trip with you when I know you want to bed me.”
“I don’t want to bed you. I want to fuck you. But I will be professional on this trip.”
“What does that mean?”
“It means that all I will ask of you is to do work, and if you want more, you will need to ask me.”
“That’s not going to happen.”
“We’ll see.” He chuckled.
“There’s nothing to be seen. I won’t be asking you to do anything to me. All I want from you is work experience.”
“Then work experience is what you shall get.”
“Thank you.”
“Are you still on the dating app?”
“Why?”
“Just curious.”
“Maybe yes. Maybe not.”
“Were you serious when you said you wanted to be a writer? Is there anything you’ve written that I can read?”
“You want to read something I’ve written?”
