“Oh shit.” I cried out as I felt my orgasm building up. Max had increased his pace, and his thumb was now urgently rubbing my clit ashis cock took control over my body.

“Come for me, Polly.” He growled as he grabbed my neck. “Come for me.”

“Sorry what did you say?” Henry was in my ear, and I could barely concentrate on what he was saying as I felt myself close to orgasm.

“I, uhm, I think that is a good idea,” I mumbled incoherently as Max pulled all the way out and then slammed into me hard. “Fuckkkk.” I screamed as my body went over the edge. I felt Max slamming into me a few more times before his body shuddered and he collapsed down on top of me. He leaned down and kissed me hard on the lips, his eyes laughing at me as Henry asked me something on the phone that I wasn’t listening to. I shook my head at him as I handed him the phone, and he chuckled slightly as he kissed me one last time and then took the phone.

“Hey, sorry about that, Henry. Polly walked into a door and hit her elbow.” He laughed. “No, I’m not working her too hard.” He grinned at me. “I think she’s getting just what she needs from this internship.” He grabbed his pants, pulled them on, and sat on the edge of the bed. I could feel his eyes on me as he continued the conversation as if we hadn’t just fucked. Was he insane? Was I insane? Had I really just had a conversation with one of the firm’s biggest clients while letting Max fuck me?

“Polly,” Max looked at me and then at my laptop, “why don’t you get back to work? I need that information in the next few hours.” He reached over and played with my nipples for a few seconds and then gave me another kiss. “If you get the work done to my satisfaction, maybe I’ll let you ride me next time.” He jumped off of the bed and headed back to the desk as I lay there with my face burning. Had he really just said that? Was this all just a joke to him? And if it was, did I care? Max was hot and fun, and the sex was amazing. Could I continue being his assistant and fucking him at the same time? I wasn’t sure. Especially because I could feel myself falling for him. And if I was really honest with myself, I had already fallen. And I knew what happened in one-sided relationships. The person that fell always ended up getting hurt. And I really didn’t have time for a heartbreak.

Chapter28

“This is very impressive.” Max looked at the ten-page document I’d emailed him, then looked at me in surprise. “You’ve gone far and beyond what I expected.” He paused and continued reading. “You did this?”

“Uhm, what sort of question is that?” I asked him, feeling guilty. I didn’t want to lie. But I also didn’t want him to think I couldn’t do the job.

“You have case citations here that I didn’t think you’d be able to find easily.” He raised an eyebrow. “This is really above what I thought you’d find on Google.”

“Fine.” I crossed my arms. “Natasha may have helped me.”

“Natasha from the intern program?” He raised an eyebrow, and I just rolled my eyes.

“What other Natasha would it be?” I asked him, and he shrugged.

“So you did none of it?”

“No.” I sighed. “I didn’t even know what you wanted me to do. I don’t have those skills, Max. I’m brand new to the law.”

“But do you really want to be a lawyer?” He stood up and crossed his arms. “Do you really want to follow a career path because you think it’s safe? Don’t you want to love it?”

“Why don’t you just say what you really mean?” I folded my arms.

“What do you mean?” He frowned.

“Why don’t you just say that even though you enjoy fucking me, that’s all you want from me?” I said crudely. “You don’t want me at the firm. You’ve been trying to get me out from day one. You want me to quit or to fire me.”

“I do want you to quit.” He nodded. “Is that so bad?”

“Yes! This is my dream. This is something I’ve been working toward.”

“Really?” He raised an eyebrow. “How long have you been working toward this dream of yours, Polly?”

“A few weeks,” I mumbled.

“This isn’t a dream.” He stepped toward me. “This is just something you feel like you need to do. Follow your real dreams.”

“What real dreams?” I glared at him. “And do not say riding you.”

“I mean, you have to admit you’re excited to be on top.” He gave me a goofy smile, and I just glared at him. “Too soon?”

“You think this is funny? You just admitted you want to fire me. You just admitted you don’t want to be around me, and now you’re joking about me being on top. That’s not funny, Max. That’s hurtful. I know this is only about sex for you, but—”

“What the hell are you talking about, Polly?” He looked confused. “I never said I didn’t want you to be around me or that I wanted to fire you. I said I wanted you to quit. Because I do. I want you to follow your dreams to be a writer. You’re talented. You can be a real light in the literary space.” He touched the side of my face. “And of course I love sleeping with you. You’re beautiful and sexy and funny, and I think I’m falling for you.” He ran his fingers through his hair. “I think we both knew from the moment we met there was a spark, and it just keeps burning brighter and brighter. I’ve never been around a woman like you before. You keep me on my feet. You make me laugh. And yes, just looking at you makes me hard. Sue me.” He tried to grab my hands, but I pulled away from him. “You’re not seriously mad at me because I like making love to you.”

“I heard you this morning.” I glared at him. “When you were on the phone with Travis. I heard you telling him that you didn’t want to be the one to fire me, but that of course you wouldn’t miss having me around the office.”

“What are you talking about?” He looked confused. “When did I say I didn’t want you in the office?” He bit down on his lower lip. “Am I going crazy or are you? I don’t recall any such conversation.”
