“Wait, I’m supposed to walk her down and give her away.”

“You can say the words, but I’m not waiting anymore.” People are laughing as I set her down, and we get married.

Until Lydia, I had no clue what real love was. I didn’t know what it would feel like to live for someone else and feel like my heart was outside my body. But now I do, and I thank God every day for the Mayson’s curse of the Boom. It’s not a curse but a blessing.

EPILOGUE 2

LYDIA

20 YEARS LATER

“Baby, where is that son of yours?” Maverick grumbles from the hallway.

I move to the entrance of my office, where I’m working on research for a proposal that was presented to the zoo board. I retired as the zoo director a couple of years ago, and now I’m sitting on the board as the current president.

“How come he’s my son when he’s in trouble with you?” I laugh as I cock my hip to the side.

“Don’t give me any lip unless you want me to spank you later.” He moves toward me. At sixty-two, he’s still intimidating and built. He never let his hair grow back and continued to shave it until he didn’t have to anymore. His hands come to the sides of my head and slide through my gray hair as he tips my head back. “Maybe I’ll just spank you because you like it so much. But first tell me whereourproblem child is.”

Holden is twenty and currently in college at Tennessee State studying criminal justice. He says he’s going to join the police force just like his dad. He wants to get on with special operations eventually. Something he learned about from Zeke.

“He told me he was going to stay at a friend’s place in Nashville to study for finals next week.” I laugh because Maverick’s right. Holden was a problem child. Everything his older brother didn’t think of doing, he did.

Micah is a corporate attorney and works for Boseman Unlimited. Michelle went to college and got her degree in sign language. She teaches at a school for the deaf in the city.

We still live in our huge house in Murfreesboro the Maysons built for us. My love has been retired for a couple of years now, and we are going on a world cruise later this year.

“Why are you looking for him? Call him.” I laugh as I move past my husband to the stairs and waggle my brows at him.

“Because young Zeke just called his dad and told him that Holden crashed the prom and carried Aislinn out over his shoulder.”

“What?” I gasp and can’t stop the laughter.

Ever since Aislinn was born to Zeke and Jamie, along with her twin brother, young Zeke, Holden said she was his. When he found out she was dating, he called and threatened to break the boy’s legs. She’s almost three years younger than him, and he won’t let her have a life.

Big Zeke, along with his brothers and Maverick, thought it was awesome that Holden was so protective of Aislinn. Guess that will change now that he’s claimed her like this.

I wait while the phone rings, and finally Holden picks up. I hear Aislinn in the background yelling at him.

“Hey, Dad, what’s up?” Holden asks like he didn’t just abduct a child.

“Son, that’s kidnapping.”

“Not if her dad knew I was going to do it,” he says with a chuckle. “Besides, that prick had a hotel room and was bragging to his buddies that he was going to take her virginity.”

“Take her home, Holden. Now.”

“Fine.” He hangs up, and Maverick turns to me.

“You have five minutes to get upstairs and undressed before I rip your clothes off and spank your pretty little ass.”

I take off running and laughing. Until I heard the story of the Boom from July, I had no idea. But Mav is mine.
