She pulled me into her arms and the way she was shaking nearly destroyed me. “Make the call to Mr. Stark. You’ll be safe working there.”

Safe. I shuddered from the way she muttered the word.

What had my cousin gotten herself in the middle of?

CHAPTER7

Jameson

“Ginger,” I said as I headed to the bar where she stood.

“Hiya, boss man.”

I glanced down at her outfit and grinned. “So that’s another version of the festive wear you mentioned?” Ginger Coleman, my director of recreation was perhaps the most creative employee I’d hired to date. She had a flair for costumes, providing dozens of suggestions for updated versions of the black-on-black attire the employees had worn since inception in the Blackout Club. Even though we’d settled on a flashy costume including built-in LED lights, she’d constantly tinkered with improvements.

“What do you think?” she asked, twirling in a full circle.

“I think you’re brilliant at what you do and I’m not certain what I would do without you.”

“Uh-huh,” she purred. “You’re buttering me up for something. I can tell.”

“When have I ever done that?”

“When you asked me to host an event for Slade, the pompous rock star. Remember?”

Wincing, I couldn’t help but laugh. It had been her first week on the job and I’d tossed her into a den full of lions. The aging rocker had met his match with her, ending his night screaming at me that she was a bitch. “Oh, that.”

“You owe me.”

I held up my hand. “I promise you this one will be much less of an issue to deal with.”

“You do know that man almost became a soprano that night. Right?”

“Is that why he hasn’t returned since the event?”

She fanned her face and winked. “What do you need?”

“How are we on waitresses?”

“As in do we have plenty of employees?”

I nodded.

“For the most part, although if business keeps up this way, I’ll need a couple more. Who do you want me to hire, your niece?” Ginger asked.

“Ouch and no.”

“Just teasing.”

“There’s a sweet girl down on her luck and I thought she might make a good fit.” The funny thing was that as I scanned the crowded bar, I could see Alexandra giving the dudes who got handsy hell.

“Sweet girl, huh? What’s her name?”

“Alexandra Kingston and I might have already offered her a job.” I stood back, giving her my usual commanding look that she typically ignored.

“Should I ask any questions?”

“Don’t you dare.”
