Ginger smiled in a slightly provocative way. “He did, but I doubt it has anything to do with what happened. Don’t be nervous. He invites every new employee into his lair to give his final approval and he does enjoy providing a tour of the club he designed.”

“Wow. He’s talented.”

“He has two partners, friends since college. The three clubs are their babies. One is in DC and another in LA. There’s a lot of money to be made in sin.” Ginger kept a smile on her face.

“What’s Jameson, I mean Mr. Stark’s drink of choice?”

“A very special and ancient bottle of Macallan scotch. A nod of approval by the way,” Troy said in passing as he slid the drink in my direction. “That’s when you know you’ve already received an A grade from someone inside the club. That someone would bemoi.” He pressed his hand against his chest, his dramatic flair cracking me up.

“Troy!” a chorus of girls yelled from the end of the bar.

“I’m wanted and it’s so exhausting. You’ll have to excuse me.” He floated off, returning his masculine mask.

“I adore him already.”

Ginger burst into laughter. “I think the feeling is mutual. I’ll take you to the private entrance for the corporate offices. Your hand scan should work now.”

“I feel so official.” I grabbed the drink then glanced at the neon straws. The playful side of me couldn’t resist, placing two of them in the glass.

She snorted and walked toward the end of the bar.

Why not bring an entirely different kind of sunshine into his life. Right? What could it hurt?

Ginger moved through the crowd to a darkened space, pointing toward the door. “Remember that no one who isn’t employed here or specifically asked by one of the executives is allowed behind that door. No one. No exceptions. Our exclusive members have access from a different location in the building.”

“Yes, ma’am. I mean Ginger. I won’t forget.”

“Knock him dead. If everything works out, you’ll be on the schedule for tomorrow. Don’t worry. I’ll take it easy on your first night.”

“One question. Are there any other openings?”

“Anything is possible at this point. Why?”

“I just might have a friend interested.”

Ginger nodded. “You can tell her to give me a call.”

“Thank you!”

Now if only I could convince Charlotte into switching jobs.

For some reason, I was even more nervous. I bit my lower lip then pressed my fingertips against the keypad. Within seconds, a light turned green. They took security very seriously around here.

As I walked in, I felt almost instantly disoriented. Unlike the other corridor, this one was brightly lit, the deep burgundy walls screaming of power. I could only imagine what Jameson’s office looked like. I headed up the stairs, my heart going pitter patter the entire time. I found his office easily, although I slid against the wall for a few seconds to catch my breath.

My nerves were in high gear, my pulse so high I was lightheaded. This was crazy. It wasn’t like I didn’t know him… carnally.

Oh, God. If anyone found out, I would die.

I knocked on the door, still breathless. Then I heard his deep voice and another flutter of butterflies and some other creature turned my stomach into a rumbling mess.

As I opened the door, I held my breath. At first, I didn’t see him. I closed the door behind me and bit my lip to keep from gasping. His office was magnificent, the rich, bold colors exuding the kind of power that I knew he held.

The furniture was leather, and there was a gorgeous rug that I could imagine rolling around on it.

Or fucking…

No. No. I had to shove the lurid thoughts aside. I was now his employee and nothing else.
