Four Days Earlier

Ten P.M.

U nfortunately for this not-so-merry band of mercenaries, hired to do ill-gotten deeds in the city, they were working against a timeline—a short one. When their boss wanted something done, they had to do it, and without any kind of hoopla.

There would be no questioning it.

There was no bellyaching allowed.

They were to do it, and make magic happen because that was what they were paid to do.

There was a target list, and the man they were watching today wasn’t exactly easy to get.

Hell.

No.

The last one…oh, he’d been an easy mark, making their jobs rather simple, but he’d only been a lawyer. He never even suspected them moving on him and his daughter.

In fact, it had been so simple and had gone off without a hitch, that they’d been given a generous bonus.

Why did they need that particular man?

They had no clue, but that wasn’t any of their business, now was it?

They’d been hired to handle a situation, and someone, their new boss, wanted the lawyer and his daughter grabbed and brought in.

So, they did it.

It was efficiently done, and once bagged and tagged, they were each paid well.

Now, they were back at it, but this one…

Oh, someone was getting spicy in NOLA. The sheer audacity of this one said it all.

Who in their goddamn right mind was going to grab someone in the law enforcement community in broad daylight?

That took cajones.

Big.

Brass.

Ones.

Well, they were the men for the job, so they were going to get it done.

Grabbing an attorney, torturing him, and then getting him to give up what he knew was easy. Teaching him a lesson to make him weep?

Easy peasy.

When he realized the shit he was in, and that they’d also taken leverage, his daughter…

He was damn sorry.

As for the daughter, she’d been a bonus, and the boss didn’t give two shits what they did with her.

That was probably a good thing because they did plenty with her.
