Monday

Mid-Morning

O h, but the day was off to a very rough start. She was not a morning person. Artemis Dubois was many things, but she absolutely hated being up too early in the morning. When you worked the night shift, as she liked to call it, noon was too early.

Nine?

That was a freaking nightmare for her. No one in their right mind could function at that time of the day.

NO.

ONE.

Yet, here she was, up and trying to make her retirement coin. Yeah, she was wide awake and making mayhem.

That was, after all, her specialty.

The only reason she was tolerating this morning's bullshit was because she was an agent of chaos. Nothing made her happier than stirring the shitpot and making a mess.

Well, that and getting paid to do that.

Right now, she was making a glorious amount of money for just pointing people in the right direction. Oh, she’d been well paid as a CIA operative, but nothing like this kind of Russian moolah.

Not.

Even.

Close.

All it took was passing along some information that she’d dug out of some classified CIA files, bribing someone in the military, and pointing a very feisty Russian at some Americans.

Ehhh, that was life.

It was eat or be eaten, and if The Hunters couldn’t hold their own, that was on them.

Not.

Her.

As of that morning, she hadn’t checked in with her bosses at the CIA for about two weeks, and that would be her pink slip.

To them, she would be off the reservation—rogue—if you would. That was fine with her.

Artemis was NOT a fan of rules.

Oh, and her bosses…

They were.

In fact, they were very specific about regular check-ins to make sure their agents weren’t off playing war games at the US expense.

Well, she was.

WAY.

OFF.

Only, she’d been smart enough to hedge her bets by getting some collateral—just in case.
