What in the world could Gram be up to now?

Her gram was known as being someone who had an irrepressible spirit. In her younger years, she traveled a lot, to countries that Kristin had to admit she had no desire to go to. Tajikistan, Greenland, and she even took a cruise to Antarctica.

“Okay. What’s going on?”

“Well, I know that the house you inherited from your other grandmother has six bedrooms. How would you feel if I brought three of my friends with me?”

“Three?” Kristin said, a little surprised.

“Well, hear me out. Two of them need a place to stay, because they’re in the same situation I am with their children. And one of them just wants to come with me. After all, I am known as somewhat of a good entertainer.”

“I know you are, Gram.” That was definitely the truth.

“They can pay. In fact, the money that we’d spend on nursing home care could be given to you, and you wouldn’t have to do anything but chase after us all day.”

Her gram said that like chasing after her and her friends would be somehow fun.

“Gram. I have a degree in graphic design. I can’t...”

Maybe she could. Maybe she could have...what would it be called? An assisted care facility? Why couldn’t she do that? She tilted her head, thinking. Maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad idea. But before she made any decisions, she was going to need more information. Walking over to the swing, she sat down.

“Gram, do you think you could get your friends together, and we could have a meeting to talk about this? It’d be great if their kids could be there too so we could all be sure we are on the same page.”

Sometimes it was hard to discern the will of the Lord, and then other times, He opened up the door so wide it was impossible not to get sucked through.

Kristin had the feeling that this was one of those times where she was going to get sucked through, whether she wanted to or not.

Chapter 28

“Ican’t believe weare finally home!” Kim said as they pulled into the drive,

“Eight weeks later,” Davis said with a laugh. “You know, it feels like forever, and yet it feels like no time at all.”

“They had so many instructions for us...do you think we’re going to end up back there?”

“They said a high percentage of people who are discharged from NICU do come back, but that was because they didn’t follow all the instructions. I think we’re going to beat the odds.”
