“I didn’t mean to choke you. I hope that was a good choking? If there is such a thing?”

“The very best kind of choking,” she said, nodding, before she coughed a little more.

“That was the very worst proposal in the history of the world. I know it. I am not good at this, but I guess I just wanted it so bad that I couldn’t stand here and pretend that I didn’t. Especially when you were nervous about what I was going to say. Please don’t be nervous. I... I admire you, and want to be a part of your life. Want to be a part of Kathleen’s as well. Want to have a family, and I want that to be with you.”

“Oh...well. I’m feeling a little overwhelmed. But I definitely want all that with you.”

He leaned over the baby carrier, and pressed his lips to hers. She closed her eyes, savoring the gentle feeling, and the way she always felt cared for and cherished when Davis was near.

“You make me feel like you really love me.”

“I do. I love you. More than anything.”

“I love you too. How could I not? You’ve been better to me than anyone in the world ever has been, and, when I’m with you, I feel like we could be a family.”

“That’s what I want.”

He leaned back a little, and they smiled into each other’s eyes.

A small “woof,” made both of them turn their heads.

“That’s a dog,” Kim said, knowing that they were both looking at a big white shaggy...

“A Great Pyrenees?” Davis said, scrunching his face up a little as though trying to figure out if that might be what it was.

“Yes. I believe so.”

“I heard they’re very friendly, but honestly I haven’t seen this one around at all. Once we're in and settled, maybe I’ll give Matt a call, or Griff at the diner, and see if they know anyone who’s missing one.”

“All right. That sounds good. He looks like he needs a home.”

“Guess we need a dog,” he said, looking at Kim with his brows raised.

“I guess we do. We have a baby, and I suppose it would take a dog to make our family complete.”

“A dog, ten horses, a baby and a wife. You said you’d marry me? I didn’t dream that?”

“I will. Whenever you want.”

“We should plan a wedding,” he said as he put the key in the lock and opened the door.

“Or we could just do it.”

“You wouldn’t want something fancy?”

“No. Nothing fancy. Just you.”

That made him smile, as he pushed the door open and she stepped into her home, her husband to be, and her baby coming in behind her.

The sooner they were a real family, the better. It felt perfect.

“That was a good homecoming,” she said, turning around as Davis set the still sleeping Kathleen on the floor, and gathered Kim up in his arms.

“I think we can make it better,” he murmured as his head descended toward hers.

“I think you might be right,” she whispered before his lips covered hers and his arms pulled her tight, as her hands went around his neck, tugging his head closer and pressing her body against his. Memories of the night they spent together spun in her head reminding her that everything was just as good, maybe even better, than what she remembered.

But that was just a small part of the reason that she loved Davis. Just because he was a good kisser, wasn’t enough. Todd could probably be considered a good kisser. Davis was everything Todd wasn’t, and so much more.
