Sienna opened the door, startling Jaxon, who guarded the hallway. She impatiently gestured for him to come in. Jaxon gave a small smile to Tina, who nodded back in greeting.

“I need to make another speech,” Sienna told him, then sighed and forced herself to slow down when Jaxon’s brows furrowed in confusion. “Kyle wants me dead because he believes I’m worth to him more dead than alive. He doesn’t know that I’ve given my fortune away. We need to make it public knowledge, convincing him that I’m of no use to him anymore. I doubt he’ll stop chasing me, but maybe he won’t be so eager to spend all his resources to get me killed as soon as possible.”

It took Jaxon a moment to process what she was telling him, but when he did, he shook his head. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“I don’t care what you think,” Sienna shot back, ignoring the flash of hurt on Jaxon’s face.

She was sure this was what they should do, and she wouldn’t let Jaxon stand in her way. Unfortunately, she wouldn’t be able to go through with her plan without a little help.

“I’m going to find my dad,” she said, then looked at Tina. “Are you going to be okay?”

“Don’t worry about me,” Tina assured her. “Go do your thing.”

Sienna threw a quick smile her way, then left the room with Jaxon close on her heels.

“I don’t think you’ll achieve anything with it,” he told her, but she ignored him and kept walking. “In fact, I think you might get the opposite of what you’re hoping for. Think about it. Right now, you’re seen as the hotshot heiress of all those fortunes, but if you announce to the world that you gave it all away, you’ll be nothing. Do you want to go back to being powerless?”

Sienna came to an abrupt stop and whirled on her heels, facing him. Her hands were clenched into tight fists, and she narrowed her eyes at him.

“First of all,” she started with a low voice full of barely contained anger. “I’ll never be powerless again. I’d rather die than be anyone’s bitch.”

Jaxon stared at her with unblinking eyes.

“Second,” Sienna continued, “I’ll do anything I can to get Kyle off my back. It will take time for us to find him, and if he backs off even a little bit, I’ll consider it a win.”

Without waiting for Jaxon’s reply, she turned away from him and started walking again, knowing that he’d do his duty and follow. Sienna didn’t know where her biological father was, but she wasn’t about to ask Jaxon for help. At least not right away.

She made her way to the gardens, knowing that her mother liked to spend time there. Maybe, if she was lucky, she’d come across her and ask her about her father’s whereabouts. To her dismay, she wasn’t there, but after they crossed another corner, her lips turned up into a relieved smile.

“Angel!” Sienna called, getting her brother’s attention.

Angel turned toward the sound of her voice and lifted his index finger, signaling for them to give him a moment. It was then that Sienna noticed he was talking on the phone. She tried not to look too impatient as she waited for her brother to finish the conversation and walk up to them.

“I need your help,” Sienna said quickly, bypassing the usual politeness. “I need to talk to Father. Have you seen him?”

“Last thing I heard was that he was in the war room talking to Mr. Carrington,” Angel replied, then tilted his head to the side, giving her a curious look. “What’s going on?”

“I don’t have time to explain, but feel free to tag along,” she told him, then turned toward the direction of the war room and broke into a run.

Knowing Mrs. Lockwood best, Angel took the most care not to step on any of the flowers, while Sienna and Jaxon plowed straight through them like two massive bulldozers. On any other day, Sienna would feel bad about it, but right now she was in too big of a rush to see the leaders of the two most powerful families.

Sienna didn’t bother knocking and simply rushed through the door into the war room. Her father and Mr. Carrington whipped their heads their way, an expression of anger on both of their faces. It was clear that Sienna and her entourage walked into an argument. She ignored it all as she came up to the table.

“I’m sorry for the interruption,” she said, forcing herself to at least try to sound apologetic even though she was far from looking the part. “I have an idea that might help us slow Kyle down a bit.”

Mr. Lockwood and Mr. Carrington exchanged the quickest of glances and gave Sienna their full attention. Mr. Carrington even went so far as to gesture for her to sit down. In her excitement, she preferred not to, but she was already on the verge of insubordination, so she forced her ass on the chair and did everything in her power to keep her feet from jumping up and down.

“I think I should make another speech,” Sienna announced, jumping straight to the point.

“What would it be about?” Mr. Carrington asked, leaning forward with his elbows resting on the table. His eyes glowed with intrigue and while Sienna expected her father to react that way, she was pleasantly surprised with the possibility of having Mr. Carrington’s support as well.

“I’d explain to the world the story behind my marriage to Kyle. I know that it won’t change anything, but it might bring a few more people to our side, the ones that don’t know what was going on in the background,” Sienna said and when her father gave her an encouraging nod, she continued, “Kyle wants me dead because he thinks he’ll inherit the Aghayan and Lockwood fortune through me. I want to make it clear to him that I gave the Lockwood inheritance to Angel and decided to share the Aghayan fortune with Tina.”

“What would that accomplish?” Mr. Carrington asked, not entirely convinced.

“Nothing,” Jaxon muttered under his breath loud enough for everyone to hear, and Sienna shot him an angry look before turning her attention back to the two leaders.

“Maybe nothing,” she conceded, but then her voice rose as she refused to give up on her idea. “Or maybe it will convince Kyle that he won’t gain much by killing me. Maybe, he’ll see that I’m more valuable to him alive than dead. Personally, I’d consider it a win if he calls off the dogs. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to die.”
