CHAPTER 1

TheprivateairportremindedSienna of a ghost town. The Carringtons and the Lockwoods put extra precautions in place whenever they moved around in the city. The danger from the Remingtons was a real threat and they had to keep their guard up.

The Lockwoods had to return to their estate to tie up their loose ends. When the truth about Sienna’s origins came out, they rushed to her side without a second thought.

After the Remingtons set up a bomb on the Carringtons’ compound, then tried but failed to kidnap Sienna from the hospital, it became clear to everyone that they would have to be dealt with.

Once the Lockwoods dealt with their business, they would return to the city to help Sienna and the Carringtons bury the Remington name forever. Sienna, her friends, and family would live out the rest of their lives in peace and prosperity.

Sienna snorted at the ridiculous thought. No matter how many dangers they’d bury, there would always be more. Someone would rise to the occasion and come circling like a shark at the smell of blood. This was her life now and she would have to get used to it. The higher position she held, there would be more people showing up to bring her down.

To her relief, she wasn’t alone. Never again. With the Carrington heirs, she didn’t find only friends, but also family and her fierce protectors. Through them, she also discovered who she was. She would never say goodbye to her Ryder roots, but that didn’t mean she could ignore the Lockwood blood that was running through her veins.

She was Sienna Ryder Lockwood, and she would make sure their enemies would tremble when hearing her name. She wouldn’t be cruel, but she would be merciless. There would be no forgiveness for whomever wronged her. It was war.

Sienna jumped at the sound of the airplane engine roaring to life. She shook her head at her silliness.

“Are you okay?” Aiden asked her, standing on her left. Despite the small smile on his face, his eyes were a bit narrowed, expressing worry.

Sienna licked her dry lips, then swallowed, feeling the knot in her throat. Her family was leaving before she had a chance to speak to them.

“I’m fine,” she lied.

Not convinced, Aiden raised his brow but didn’t press her any further. He knew this wasn’t easy for her.

Sienna was surrounded by all the Carrington heirs as they watched the Lockwoods’ baggage being put on the plane. Her little brother had already boarded without saying a word to her. Her father was talking to the pilots and her mom never left his side. Sienna’s lips turned up into a small smile at the sight of their clasped hands, and her heart warmed whenever her father rubbed his thumb in a soothing motion over his wife’s. They were the picture of true love.

Her parents approached them, and Sienna’s back straightened, making her seem taller than she was. Her mother looked at her with sad eyes and her lips trembled when they pulled up in a small smile. Her father was a picture of confidence and authority.

“We’ll be back soon,” her father told her.

The words caught in her throat, but Sienna managed a slight nod.

“There’s a lot to be said and done, but after that, we’ll be a family again,” he promised her with a strong and sure voice.

Sienna’s feet itched to run into his safe arms and her hands yearned to touch her mom’s cheek. They were her family and her blood.

“Have a safe flight.”

She wanted to say more, but for the first time in her life, the words didn’t come to her. Her mind and tongue failed her. To her relief, her parents weren’t disappointed with her response.

“Bye, sweetie,” her mom said with a small voice that carried an endless amount of patience.

Sienna could see love in her green eyes, and she hoped that she wouldn’t give up on her, no matter how long it took. Her father was more forward than that. He took a step toward her and rested a hand on her shoulder.

“Be careful. Don’t trust anyone,” he warned her in a low voice.

She looked into the greenest shade of eyes that she’d ever seen and yet the ones that reminded her so much of hers, then nodded. There were only a few people in the world she trusted, and she could count them up on the fingers of one hand.

After one last look filled with emotion on both sides, her parents boarded the plane. The Carrington heirs stood by Sienna’s side until it disappeared from their view.

“We have to go,” Jensen said, his eyes on his phone. “Father wants to talk to us.”

“Is everything okay?” Aiden asked.

“I think so, but we better go soon,” Jensen replied.

At the slight touch on her back, Sienna’s attention turned to Jaxon, who was looking at her with his baby blue eyes.
