It was Mr. Carrington’s turn to answer and get the attention back on himself. “You’re the heir to the Ryder and the Lockwood fortune, and on top of that, you’ve also been named as the Aghayan heir. It’s safe to say that you’re a powerful person, and getting on your good side could turn out to be beneficial for the future of those families.”

Sienna’s eyes widened when she realized how everyone saw her. It was the opposite of the way she saw herself. She wasn’t some princess in distress anymore; now she was a fucking queen who could turn the cities to ruin if she wished so. The knowledge of her new status gave her power and filled her with confidence.

Sienna lifted her chin up as her lips turned up into a smile. “I’m ready.”

“If she’s so valuable, why will she be accompanied only by one of us?” Jensen asked.

“And which bodyguard?” Aiden added. “It has to be someone exceptionally good.”

Mr. Carrington lifted his hand, quieting them down before more questions could arise. “It is very important we fly below the radar as much as we can, which means minimum escort is our best option. One heir will go with her to show the families that we’re working together and because I trust you guys will protect her no matter the cost. The other heirs still have their duties at home to attend to. It would be suspicious of us to send all our heirs out, not to mention how vulnerable we would be.”

Jensen nodded in agreement, accepting his father’s explanation.

“And the bodyguard?” Aiden asked again, earning himself a reproachful look from his father.

“The bodyguard will be one of the people who’s already familiar with Miss Ryder and her habits,” Mr. Carrington replied, and Sienna’s brow shot up. “He was the commander of her armed escort and will now be the only one in the service of protecting her.”

Sienna wasn’t aware there was a commander leading her armed escort, but it made sense that they’d be organized. She did notice they were taking shifts when it came to guarding her. She wondered if she’d met him before or whether he was another player who preferred to stay in the background.

“Now if there are no more questions, then Aiden and Sienna better get ready. Your plane leaves in two hours,” Mr. Carrington said.

Sienna fought back a groan at the mention of leaving on such short notice, and Aiden straightened his back at attention.

“Where are we going, Father?” he asked.

Mr. Carrington’s smile sent a chill down Sienna’s spine.

“Where all the rich people go… The Hamptons.”

CHAPTER 2

“I’vealwayswantedtogo to the Hamptons,” Adrianna admitted, with a barely perceptible hint of jealousy in her voice as she was preparing Sienna’s suitcase with a considerate amount of care.

“It’s nothing special,” Sienna told her.

“You’ve been there before?”

Sienna nodded. “I spent a few summers there. The party season can be quite exhausting.”

“I’ve only everseenit in the movies.”

Sienna stood up and helped Adriannacloseher suitcase. In the end, she had to sit on it so Adrianna could zip it up.

“Haven’t you packed too much? I’ll only be gone a day or two.”

Adrianna shook her head earnestly. “In there, you have clothes for every possible occasion. Formal house party? Bam, you’re prepared. Informal house party? Bam, you’re also prepared. Pool party? Make your choice between three different sets of bikinis. Casual day outside? You have an outfit. Barbecue? Also—”

“Yeah, yeah, I get the point. I’ll have the whole closet with me.”

“Not exactly, but not for the lack of trying.”

Sienna rolled her eyes. “Don’t let anyone ever change you, Ade. You’re too precious for your own good.”

Adrianna grinned. “That’s the last thing any of us will ever need to worry about.”

Sienna shook her head and smiled, then went to sit on the bed, but changed her mind at the last moment and sat on the chair instead.

“Still avoiding the bed?” Adrianna asked, noticing everything.
