“I hope so,” Adrianna said, then looked over Sienna’s shoulder at approaching Jensen. “You be careful, okay? Both of you.”

“We will,” Sienna promised.

“Don’t worry, Ade. I’ll look after her,” Jensen said, then offered Sienna his arm to take her to the car.

Sienna’s brows furrowed at another one of his mood shifts, but she was too tired to argue with him, so she tucked her arm into his and walked with him to the car, but not before she gave Adrianna one final wave.

This time it was only her, Brian, and Jensen, because Jensen refused to take the plane, wanting to go with the car instead. The drive would last around six hours and Sienna couldn’t imagine anything worse than being stuck in a metal contraption with these two. More with Brian than Jensen, at the moment she didn’t mind the moody heir’s company.

“Where are we going?” Sienna asked, holding back the frustration of being the last to find things out.

“Boston, Massachusetts,” Jensen replied.

Sienna had to probe further when he didn’t elaborate. “Why? Who are we meeting? What’s our mission? Just give me the damn folder.”

Jensen raised his brow but didn’t say anything. He reached into his bag and pulled out a bunch of papers. After sorting through them, he handed her half of the pile.

“That should answer your questions,” he said, then asked Brian to put the music a bit louder, making it clear that he wasn’t in the mood to talk.

Sienna didn’t mind the music, and despite being tired, focused herself on the information in front of her. A part of her hoped that Brian slept better than she did but still made a mental note to ask the guys to stop for coffee after an hour or two.

They were on their way to Cambridge, quite close to Harvard University. The family in whose house they’d be staying was called Thorne. Sienna had never heard of them, nor did she have any recollection of them ever living in their city. After she continued reading, it made sense why they were sent to get them on their side.

Jack, the patriarch of the Thorne family was an internet security software tycoon. His wife Tessa was a professor at Harvard, teaching the subject of computer science. She was undoubtedly scouting for future computer engineers that would get employed by her husband’s company. Their son Riley wasn’t only one of the computer wizzes but also had a higher than average IQ. When Sienna saw his picture, she wasn’t in the least surprised that the women were fighting over him. He was a naturally good-looking guy with an enchanting smile.

Having the Thorne family on their side would help them get into many computer systems with a more fail-proof method than the one Xavier was using. They’d know about their enemies’ next move before they’d make it. Getting the Thornes’ support was vital for their cause. A ghost of a smile spread on Sienna’s lips at the enticing thought of the possible end of the war in the nearer future than she would’ve thought.

“What’s going on with you?” Sienna snapped at Jensen after he shifted in his seat and sighed loudly for the hundredth time. “You’ve been moaning and groaning since we left. It seems like you don’t want to do this.”

“I don’t,” Jensen replied without looking at her. His head was turned toward the window, his eyes on the passing trees.

“Why not?”

“I just don’t,” he snapped with more force than necessary, then sighed and turned his head to look at Sienna, continuing with a softer tone. “I think that I could be of more use at home. That’s all.”

Surprised by his reluctance to do what was asked of him by his father of all people, Sienna only nodded. When Jensen looked away from her, she met Brian’s eyes in the rearview mirror. She suppressed a shiver at their unusual coldness and made a mental note to try to avoid him as much as she could. Her bodyguard kept on crossing the line and she didn’t want anything to do with him. Not unless he made some drastic changes.

They rode for a while with nothing but music to break the silence and the occasional news report on the radio station that they were listening to. It was the first time in a while that Sienna had some time to clear her thoughts and process what happened.

Her feelings toward the Carrington heirs were getting complicated. She loved them all, but each one of them in a different way. They all challenged her and made her a better version of herself. When she was with them, she was complete.

Jaxon annoyed her as much as he turned her on, while the thought of Aiden with someone else had her insides burning with jealousy. It was selfish of her, but she wanted them all for herself.

With Xavier, she had a lovely and caring friendship, but besides the very fun foursome, she didn’t feel any other connection with him. That didn’t mean that she didn’t love him, it was just that she didn’t have the chance to spend much time with him.

Jensen was the only one she was confused about. A part of her wanted him and would take him right here and now, but then there was something else in her that insisted that he was different. There was a line that couldn’t be crossed with him, because once it was done, they could never go back. He was a delicious eight-pack mystery that she wouldn’t mind licking wide open.

“While I fill up the tank, you two can go to the bathroom or get some coffee, food, whatever you want,” Brian announced, stopping at the gas station. His voice jerked her out of her thoughts, and it took her a moment to process what he was saying.

As soon as he stopped, Sienna exited the car and started walking away until someone gripped her arm, turning her around rather forcefully.

“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” she snapped at Jensen and shook her arm out of his grip.

“What the fuck’s wrong with you?” he snapped back, his eyes darting from her to the surrounding area and back again. “It’s too dangerous for you to walk around alone. You should really be more careful.”

“Stop acting like you care. You’re moodier than a pregnant woman and I’m too tired to deal with your shit right now. You need to decide whether you like me or not. If you want us to be friends, fine, but if not, then leave me the fuck alone. I’m not your prisoner anymore.”

Jensen’s eyes widened and he took a sharp breath before replying with a softer tone than she expected. “I’m sorry, I wasn’t aware I was treating you that way. I’ve spent too much time in my head lately and it’s starting to take a toll. For what it's worth, I am sorry.”
