“Brian here was a big help,” he told her, gesturing the worst bodyguard she ever had forward, then put his arm around his shoulders. “He kept us updated on your movements and fed us information on your progress. He also helped us plant the bomb, although that didn’t go as planned.”

Brian grimaced and muttered an apology for failing, but Mr. Remington dismissed him and patted his back before giving him a proud smile.

“We’ve tried kidnapping you in the past and finally realized that it would be easier to lure you to our side,” Mr. Remington told her, his sleezy attention on her again. Sienna repressed a shudder, cursing her stupidity. “You made it easy for us and now is our turn to make it easy for you. Marry my son Kyle and you’ll live, otherwise, you’ll all die.”

“Never,” Sienna spat back before she could fully register his words.

Mr. Remington nodded at the thugs on the side and after a moment, they brought two figures, their heads covered with a black bag. Sienna’s heart stopped when they uncovered them, and she saw badly bruised and beaten faces of the Berti sisters.

“Elisabet, Arlene,” she breathed and rushed to them. “Are you okay?”

Their pupils were dilated as if they were drugged up. It was a small mercy that dulled the pain.

“Let them go!” Sienna ordered fiercely, turning back to Mr. Remington.

“I will as soon as you marry my son. You have my word that as long as you do what you’re asked, they won’t be harmed,” he promised, then tilted his head to the side and grimaced. “Well, they won’t be harmed more than they’ve already been.”

“You sick fuck,” she hissed.

Brian jumped forward, slapping her hard across the face. She tasted the metallic taste of blood on her tongue. She took a moment to gather herself before looking at Brian and spitting it in his face. His eyes burned with anger, and he lifted his hand to slap her again.

“Enough!” Mr. Remington ordered, stopping him moments before he could deliver the blow. “Miss Ryder is aware of consequences of her actions. I think it’s time for her to get ready for the wedding.”

“You can’t do this!” Sienna yelled. “You can’t force me to marry your sadistic son.”

“Sadistic?” Kyle mused. “That’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. Save your niceness for after the wedding. I promise I have a surprise of my own in store.”

“Brian,” Mr. Remington said with a nod at her ex-bodyguard, giving him a silent order.

Brian reached behind his waist and pulled out a gun, then without hesitation shot Arlene’s leg. Despite her drugged-up state, she screamed in pain and fell on the floor. Elisabet joined her, sobering enough to know to put pressure on the wound. Sienna wanted to help, but Brian roughly grabbed her arm and pulled her toward Mr. Remington.

“The sooner you get married, the sooner I’ll get a doctor to stitch her up,” he told her. “Tick-tock, your friend is bleeding out.”

Brian dragged her to the side room with Tina following close behind them. He pushed her in and locked the door behind Tina. Sienna’s eyes darted around, noting that there were no windows for her to escape.

“You better do what they say,” Tina urged, her first words to her. “They can be brutal if you don’t. It’s better to keep them happy.”

Sienna’s eyes darted from Tina to the other side of the room where a wedding dress waited for her. The whole room was set for her to get ready for the wedding and Tina was there to help her. She only had one chance to escape, but she couldn’t do it alone.

“Tina,” Sienna whispered in a pleading voice and grabbed her hands. “Please help me.”

Tina shook her head. “I can’t.”

“Please,” Sienna pleaded. “You owe me, remember?”

Tina shook her head, her eyes filling with tears. “They’ll kill us both. We better get you ready.”

With trembling hands, Tina unzipped Sienna’s dress, letting it fall on the ground, then took the wedding dress off the hanger. Not wanting to upset her, Sienna followed the motions, but kept on talking the whole time.

“I know you remember me,” Sienna insisted. “I remember the way you looked at me when you saw me that day at dinner at the Remington house. Your eyes begged me to keep the secret and I did. I helped you. I did it more than once and now I’m asking you to help me.”

Tina ignored her, but Sienna knew she was only pretending. Her fingers were too stiff when they styled her hair and her mouth was set in a thin line, fighting back tears. Sienna kept on pushing, hoping to get her on her side.

“Remember when we were roommates at the University? Those were good times, yeah? Well, most of it. You got into trouble, and I was the one who helped you. You liked drugs a bit too much, got addicted to them, but I never turned you away. I risked my life and my reputation to help you out of the mess you got yourself in,” Sienna insisted, trying to keep a strong grip on her voice. “I’m sure you remember that day when you woke up with your drug dealer in your bed. You were the only one who woke up. He never did. He overdosed.”

Tina dropped the brush but picked it up just as quickly and continued with her work.

“You panicked and came to me, asking me for help,” Sienna continued, “You had nowhere else to go and I didn’t turn you away. I told you I would take care of everything, and I did. Do you want to know how I did it? I never got a chance to tell you because you left the school and signed up for rehab, which I think was the best thing you could’ve done and after you were out, I didn’t want to give you a reason to fall off the wagon.”
