One brow rose higher than the other. “Club business?”

I glanced around the room. Other than the receptionists behind the counter, who were pretending to be busy, there were only two others waiting in chairs in front of the TV. I grabbed Harlow’s hand and pulled her across the room for more privacy. I wanted to pull her down onto my lap and hold her tight. The sight of Bronx being so close to her had unnerved me.

“I know you can’t talk about it,” Harlow said as she turned slightly toward me. “It’s okay.”

That caused me to grin. I knew she probably had a hundred and one questions, and there was no denying the worry still simmering in her eyes, but she was trying to understand. “You been talking to the old ladies again?” I reached up and tucked some hair behind her ear.

She leaned into my hand like a contented cat and sighed. “Not lately,” she murmured. “Except for Lulu on the way here. And I’ve learned some from our conversations.”

I nodded.

She took a breath. “I want to be a good woman for you, Liam. I want to fit in.”

Well, fuck me. I hadn’t been expecting that. My heart swelled with more love for this woman. “You’re a special lady, you know that? And you’re fucking perfect for me.” I sucked in a breath, knowing that I had to warn her about Bronx. She wasn’t going to like going on lockdown, but there was no other way to keep her safe.

“I can tell something is wrong.”

I exhaled a deep breath. “You’re not going to like it, but you’re going on lockdown.”

Before she could figure out what I meant, the hospital doors slid open and my brothers came storming in like warriors returning from battle.

Chapter 18

Harlow

I lay in bed thinking about how quickly my life had changed now that Liam and I were together. I’d been moved into the clubhouse and was going on day three of sleeping in his room. Without him. That had been his idea, because apparently I was a distraction that he didn’t need right now. The trouble that the club was dealing with was bad, and I wasn’t the only one on lockdown. The clubhouse was packed with families, but the size and layout of the building allowed everyone their own space away from the main room and bar area.

Liam had told me just enough about what was going on to convince me that I needed to be at the club. The way that he’d described Bronx, along with the fact that me coming face-to-face with the man had completely freaked Liam out, had been enough to convince me not to tempt fate. Liam had hated frightening me, but he’d wanted to make sure that I understood the danger of Bronx getting his hands on me.

The man was a living, breathing, monster!

I shivered and rolled over, hugging my pillow. It smelled of Liam, and I inhaled deeply, wishing he were with me. The man was so stubborn! The other men didn’t seem to have any trouble sleeping with their women, so Liam’s explanation for why he needed to sleep apart from me didn’t hold merit. I knew the real reason that he was afraid to spend the night with me. It was so obvious that when we were together, we couldn’t keep our hands off one another, and the sexual tension was almost unbearable. Just last night he’d come so close to losing control. God, just remembering it got me soaked. I could still remember the feel of his bare cock thrusting between my legs.

I closed my eyes tight and let my mind drift back to the events of the night before. Liam and I had just finished dinner in the bar and were sitting back enjoying drinks and conversation with Frenchie and Lissa. They’d been together for years and made a beautiful couple. I enjoyed listening to Frenchie when he spoke. His French accent sounded so sexy.

Those with children had retired to their rooms. Other brothers were occupied with their own activities, like playing cards and pool, and once the club women were allowed to come out, sex. Trying not to watch was difficult, considering that it was right in my face.
