“Seriously?” I ask him. “You’d better warn him.”

Ezra smiles as he approaches. “Hey, guys.”

“Hey,” Poppy says as she glances at Shep, who’s now staring at Miss Australia like he wants to recreate some memories, and she’s looking at him the same way.

“Amelia Hines, this is my lovely sister, Winslow,” Ezra says.

“Poppy, please,” Poppy says, shaking the other woman’s hand.

“Hi, Poppy. I love your dress,” the other woman marvels, glancing nervously at Shep.

“And these are my brothers, Kincaid and—”

“Shepherd,” the woman says softly, smiling at Shep.

Ezra frowns and looks between them as he rolls his eyes. “Do the two of you know each other?”

“We may have shared a few hours in a cozy space,” Shep says wryly with a smirk.

Ezra looks disgusted, and Poppy is snickering.

“Maybe she’s trying for Miss Universe,” she mutters.

“If you two will excuse us, I uh...I think we will head to the table with Mom and Dad. The festivities will be starting soon,” Ezra says.

“Don’t forget to show him that little thing you can do over a toilet,” Shep calls out.

Ezra looks horrified, but the woman is smiling proudly. I shake my head while Poppy snickers some more.

When they walk away, I tell Shep, “One day, this lifestyle will catch up with you.”

“You mean how yours is about to?” he asks, tossing his head to my right.

I follow where his gaze is trained and damn near choke on my wine because what in the hell is she doing here?

It’s been four months since I’ve laid eyes on her.

“The only fucking thing that Kincaid Holt Maxwell didn’t get right. If only dear old Dad knew,” Shep says.

“Shut up,” I grunt through clenched teeth.

“No. Why don’t you say hello to your beautiful...what would you call a woman you have to share with her husband?”

“I don’t know, but you should,” I retort.

Chuckling, he says, “I don’t do married women.”

I walk away from Poppy and Ezra just as Poppy asks, “Who is she?”
