10WEEKS LATER
Shepherd is the last person that I would ever take advice from. However, he gave me a lot to think about by challenging me with the statement that I love Nia.
How could he possibly fucking think that?
I was with Claire for two years, and we never told each other we loved one another. We mentioned planning a future together, but the words “I love you” never came out. We knew we were on similar tracks, and the world awaited us.
Claire, like me, came from an uber-wealthy family with tons of money. I always knew she wasn’t interested in me because of my money but because of my ability to create and grow our wealth. She loved that I was always four steps ahead of the next guy planning another business venture and side hustle.
I’ve given her ideas for expanding her wealth, and she’s seen the success play out before her eyes in the form of a yoga clothing line, a sports drink, and yoga equipment. As I advised, she invested in real estate and art and has seen those investments pay off, too.
We also had amazing sex; she always encouraged the sexual deviant within me. I’ve thought about Claire a lot over the last two months, which is how I came to be in her apartment in Paris.
