My face screws up. “What did you do?”

He shakes his head and says, “Trust me, you don’t want to know. My mother owed her a favor, and I was in deep shit with my parents, and somehow, I became the payback of that favor since the Senator’s out of town.”

“Yikes!” I say, clenching my teeth and baring them as I frown. “And your parents...you live with them?”

Shoving his hands into his pockets, he says, “Hell no. I’m an eternal bachelor with a townhouse on the opposite side of town from my controlling parents. I love sex too much to live at home or to have a roommate.”

“Discretion?”

“One and the same,” he replies.

“Ditching your date won’t get you on your parents’ shit list?”

Smirking devilishly at me, he says, “It will. Oh, by the way, did I mention I’m the black sheep of the family?”

“God, this is going to be good,” I laugh.

“I promise you that God has nothing to do with just how good...or bad I can be,” he says as my car is pulled to the front. “Is this you?”

A jolt hits me like a bolt of lightning between my thighs. I shake it off and answer his question.

“Yes, this is my bestie...Aries.”

He whistles and smiles as he opens the door and climbs into the passenger seat while I buckle in as the valet driver closes my door.

“Aries?”

“That’s my zodiac sign and what I chose to name my baby,” I say, pulling smoothly out of the circular driveway of the conference center.

“She’s like a sleek silver bullet,” he replies, commenting on the color of my car.

I press the button to let the top down. The evening summer breeze kisses my skin, and a smile caresses my lips. At the same time, I feel a tingle of anticipation between my thighs as I take off down Meeting Street toward Court House Square. Traffic is somewhat crowded tonight, so I carefully maneuver my way through until I make a left on Calhoun.

“Where are we heading?” Shep asks.

“The Bennett,” I say, taking a right onto King Street.

“Awfully pretentious for someone who doesn’t care for pretentious people.”

“I don’t mind spending a dollar for the comfort of a place like this. It’s a hell of a lot better than getting fucked in a dingy gas station restroom.”

He chuckles. “Spoken like a woman who’s done that before.”

“Maybe she has,” I say, smirking and winking at him before turning my gaze back to the street.

“You do realize we could have gone to my place.”

Glancing at him, I shake my head. “You do realize that I don’t know you.”

“Yet,” he says, eyeing me with the perfect, condescending ass smirk. “You’re about to let me inside of your body.”

When I pull up and get out of the car, I hand my keys to yet another valet attendant and wait for my ticket. Once I have it, I step up to Shep’s side.

“You can steal my breath, blow my mind, tear me to pieces, and ravage my body, but at the end of the night, I want to be barely breathing and limping on shaky legs like a baby giraffe. If I go to your house, I might not live to reminisce about it tomorrow,” I say, smirking and winking at him.

Our voices lower as we enter the hotel heading to the registration desk.

“You expect me to do all that, huh?”

“I expect nothing less. Otherwise, why waste each other’s time?” I stop and lift an eyebrow.

“Mr. Maxwell. Welcome back,” the attendant greets.

I glance at him and smirk. “Mm, who’s being pretentious now?”

Leaning into me, he asks, “How about I fuck you so good you need life support when we’re done?”

My eyes widen, and he gives a beautiful full-on smile to the attendant who registers us for a room on the eighth floor.
